I rarely buy SA beers but there have been instances with other breweries who notch the labels where I couldn't tell for sure what month was notched. Also, a beer bottled June 1 and June 30 would have the same marking, while 30 days isn't a long time, it would factor into my decision to purchase or not.

BBC also puts a Julian (day of the year) bottling date on their 12 pk and case packaging after the Best By date, and the same code is stamped on the glass, near the shoulder IIRC.

So, in the below examples, the beers were bottled on Dec. 20th (354th day) and Feb. 24th (54th day).

I really don't understand people. Truly. This IS a message board, yes? We come here, united, in an exact hobby of craft beer. So when I post a message, I am told to NOT come here and complain about something. Am I NOT to come here and give props and kudos when warranted? This is what the message board is here for. Again, don't read my post; don't reply in the thread if you just want to COMPLAIN about my COMPLAINING.

I am secure and confident in my post. I am basically just asking why the dates aren't easily readable on bottles. I ask for a solution from the brewery in question. I have read many considerate and helpful replies, and I appreciate the debate. It is interesting and passes the time among my fellow beer nerds. However, some of you are just sad, lonely, and pathetic souls that wanna bring innocent fellow craft beer enthusiasts down with your ignorant and immature attacks on those who just want to have a discussion.

Thanks to those who have responded in a kind manner that wanted to participate - positively - in this thread.

To those that just want to be dickheads, you are not going to bring me down. Look in a mirror and find goodness in your life. You are blessed.

Relax a little and grab yourself a beer. Sounds like you need it!

I will always respect Lagunitas for one reason: customer service. I ordered a glass from them and they delivered it with a hand-written "thank you" as well as stickers and coasters. Nobody does that. As far as their beer // it all tastes the same to me so I stopped drinking it.

I for one have not ever had a problem w any Lagunita's product I have purchased. I read threads like this to try and get a perspective on what others think. I also do not as a matter of routine check bottling dates. Maybe my palate is just such that I cannot tell the difference between a beer bottled within the last week and one that was bottled 3-4 months ago.

My take on this whole arguement/discussion is that those who are not happy w how Lagunita's does things should do one of two things and I have no preference for which one chooses- 1. Buy beer from a different producer. or 2. Shop only at stores who regularly turn over their product where one knows what one buys will be good/fresh whether it be Lags or the ABC beer co.
