Having seen anything on here about upstate brewing company in Elmira New York . They have been killing it. 2016 ale , 2017 ale and double citra are on par with any top ne style juice bomb out there.

They used to send distro to Albany and now they don't. Been hearing they're killing it but that brewery is so far from where I am and not near anything else I care about that I don't know when I'd ever go.

I have had a couple of their offerings and I would recommend it if you are in the area.

There last release of 2016 ale lasted a few days. This time double citra was sold out in 20 minutes , and 2017 ale went within the hour. Seemed like everyone there was driving a few hours to get there. Hoping they continue to put many more beers out at a very high level. Its nice to finally have a brewery in the wny area that is putting out and canning ipas on par with Massachusetts.

Missed the 2017 and Citra, but the 2016 was amazing, as good(if not better than) as anything in NYC right now.

These guys have been on a roll lately but this last release (2017, Citra Double) absolutely blew me away.

    Upstate release 1/27/17:

    4 cans available Friday:

    Double
    Black IPA (Citra & Eureka)
SMaSH 005 (Golden Promise & El Dorado)
    Brunch v3.0 (Bali coffee beans)

We're eyeing limits of (4) 4pks of Double and (3) 4pks each on all others. We've lowered limits in order to allow more people to get cans, but we never know what the turnout will be. If you really want cans please try to be at the brewery Friday. Growler fills of all beers will be available in the taproom

Sounds like things weren't as crazy as the previous release. Anyone heard any feedback on the new SMaSH?

Really dissapointed 2017 fell off a cliff at the two week mark. Total butter bomb!

Agreed, hops completely fell flat. Helped a little to roll the can before opening and to swirl the beer after but still very disappointing. Citra double has mellowed a bit and tasting great though.

Anyone else loving the black IPA? Nice change of pace.

I am glad I drank my 2017 within the first week, because it was AMAZING!! It sucks to hear that it's falling off so quickly. Maybe they're having an issue with the honey, or while canning? Their latest Double batch is great and agree with Jdotbrone, the Black IPA is awesome.

Of the most recent batch, I would say I am the most impressed with the Black IPA. They hit that one out of the park. The SMASH was good, nothing special though.

The NZ IPA and Simcoe/Amarillo release seemed to go smoothly today. Got there about 12:15 with maybe a dozen people in line and was out in 10-15 minutes.

The Simcoe/Amarillo smells amazing, but the taste struggled to live up to the aroma at least on the 1st can. Still a good beer. The NZ IPA was about what you would expect if you've had other heavily NZ hopped beers. Decent execution, but nothing mind blowing for me.

I'd rank today's beers behind the Australia IPA, Winter DIPA, and regular Double (having missed the 2016, 2017, and Citra Double releases for reference).

Got both cans but only cracked the NZ so far. It's pretty solid out of the gate but a week or two should round out the flavors nicely. Aussie is one of my favorites of theres and I wouldn't say NZ has surpassed it.

I'll be in town for that release. I'm looking forward to it. I was around for the 2016 Fall Ale and Double release and they were both outstanding. These guys are killing it

Was surprised this thread had been dormant for so long.

I hit up the Galaxy 15 Plato & Double can release today. I'm encouraged by the 15 Plato DDH series, but the Galaxy version didn't quite match the Citra / El Dorado for me (I missed the Melba / Mosaic entry). Great tropical nose as you'd expect from galaxy hops, but the taste didn't fully back it up. Double cans were solid as usual.

I tried the Kentucky Common and White IPA back in 2015 and wasn't impressed with either.
