I’m racking my brain as a restaurant owner what to search for next on the nitro beer side. I have carried boulder shake, Rasputin from north coast, victory hop devil, founders pale ale, Firestone milk stout and a few others. Guiness probably will not be coming back anytime soon. Calling on all beer heads for breweries I need to check to get very good to exceptional nitro stout to IPA offerings. I pleade for your assistance lol.
Unless you're going outside your regional distribution area (legal to do in NYS as long as you stay in-state) wouldn't it be easier to just ask your distributors what nitro kegs they carry or can get from their breweries?
Left Hand has some variety when it comes to Nitro: Milk Stout Nitro Chai Milk Stout Nitro Blackcurrant Nitro Bittersweet Nitro Braveheart Nitro Hard Wired Nitro Sawtooth Ale Nitro Wake Up Dead Nitro For something more local you could try Rushing Duck Beanhead Porter.
I am working with my distributor but it seems like if I do the legwork I get better results. They are wonderful to work with and sometimes hit a homer in the nitro side.
Agreed - I've tried Victory Hop Devil and Southern Tier IPA on nitro and I don't get it. It totally kills the hop aroma. Yes, it's a shame that cask conditioned beer is hard to find in the US - nitro is such a pour imitation. And half the time that a bar has a "special firkin" it's just because a brewery wanted to throw some extra hops or fruit in an IPA. Luckily Yards and Forest & Main down here in the Philly area offer some true British style cask beers - Bitter, Dark Mild, Porter, etc.
