I will pay double if it comes in an embossed Summit bottle.

Sounds like I got something going here...
    I'll post a link later.
So far I need to bottle only 10, 1 parking space and in a summit bottle. Anyone for virtual high 5s or anything else dumb?

$200 for a virtual reach around sounds fair.

Looks like you may have answered your own question. Q: Why? A: They think they can.

Claim ownership for life and build a microhouse on it. That'll show 'em.

I will build a brewery there. There are only two breweries in that parking lot right now, which is far from market saturation.

I will crowdfund $10 to this new microhouse brewery in said parking lot if you call it: "Rural Explosion Brewing"

Sorry, I already ordered giant foam hands that say "Parking Space Brewing".

It will be nice because the land is already zoned properly and the $10000 includes a sign for the brewery. I will buy a canning line right away. I won't have any issues getting a loan. I just need to bring a slip of paper that says "Walez" to the bank and they will give me whatever I need.

Kickstarter aside, do you think they've even considered the irony their name becomes if they start canning?

Bingo. It's a business, not a charity. People can support business however they want (local, independent versus corporate, sure), but I imagine just about everyone is loyal to their money first. If it's a fair exchange of money for goods (even in good faith), then fine. But when it's a downright donation to a business, um, no. Maybe if you're Uncle Joey and you've had your hardware business in my small town for 70 years, but even then, it's probably a lost cause. Definitely not a 2-year-old brewery.

Right. Build a viable business before you worry about expanding. Again, no MBA here ...

Off-topic: I'm now taking donations to pay my mortgage.

Perk: You can stay in my basement for one night, and I'll give you a pick of two beers in my fridge (I get to pick the shelf).

Someone shared the thread on Facebook with Urban Growler (not me). Their response:

Thank you, Mike. Yes, we are aware. We've built our brewery with community support and involvement all along. Banks didn't believe in us, but the community did. Thanks to a whole lot of people- we are open and growing! If anyone has questions, please feel free to stop in and talk to us.
    Sincerely, Jill & Deb

More power to them if they can get people to hand over money, but I'd argue that this isn't organic growth. Also, because they're collecting directly through their site, I don't see a how much has been raised. I wonder if that'll be shared.

Anybody remember before they opened, Urban Growler threw an advertised fundraiser party trying to get investors? I heard they got a little chat with some securities lawyers

I have this crazy idea. If you don't want to donate, then don't. I know crazy right? I believe i heard they did secure loans to increase brewing capacity but did not secure loans for canning. If people want to donate to their cause, that is their choice. The perks never match the donations for most kickstarter, or crowd funding campaigns, Im pretty sure the people who want to donate to Urban Growler do it because the like the brewery and owners. At the brewery, you can donate a buck or nothing if you choose, and they have a giant sign updating you on progress. trashing breweries online is petty I think. Hey, better start a new thread trashing bauhaus while you are at it, i mean they are getting a ton of money from a distributor to expand, the horror!! drink a beer, chill out, peace.

Bauhaus reaching the max capacity soon for self distributing and needing to connect with a distributor is about as different as you can possibly get.

Pot? Meet kettle. People are chill, we are simply discussing this, pretty reasonably too.

If the goal was to collect donations from individuals close to the brewery, they should not be spending money advertising their campaign on Facebook. I have been very critical of brewery Kickstarters in the past, but this is a new extreme.

As alluded to before, many Minnesota breweries sell their distribution rights to expand their business. It is a sound business practice that ultimately benefits all parties involved (including consumers).

My thought as I finished reading this screed: "If you're going to shill for your brewery, at least be subtle about it."

Waiting for the inevitable "5" reviews for Urban Growler beers from @MrpalealeMN ...

Why even sell beer? Just collect free money and be done with it.
