As with the first round, I know this is not the right forum, but please Bros, let it slide! Not as many Canadians follow the BIF forums, so I just want to get the word out where people will see it! Thanks!! http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/nbo-us-can-bif-best-international-friends-round-2.4704/ I'm organizing a second round of a BIF involving US and Canadian BAs. Please take a moment to check it out and consider joining in on the fun! Thanks and cheers all!
If anyone is unfamiliar with bifs (though I know there is the CANBIF that runs strictly through this forum), please don't hesitate to speak up!
Ah! I forget that the CANBIF follows completely different ideals than our BIFs... Our format, you do NOT know who is shipping to you or what you are getting! (half the fun is not knowing who or what you're getting! ) Everyone will ship at the same time (aka Shotgun), so that everyone receives at the same time. The point is to send local favorites we don't have access to...and vice versa for us! There will be equal participants from each country. All Americans will be shipping only to Canadians and vice versa. The whole point is for Canadian BA's to get beer from the US that they can't get, and Americans BA's to get beers that we don't have access to!
I might be interested in trying this; I'm located in Montreal and would like to try some American brews. What is involved in this type of thing? I could use some more details.
Basically, each personal will be given a target to ship beer to; CAN to US, US to CAN. Target time to ship would be May (to give people plenty of preparation time). People won't know who is shipping to them. Instead, a Hints and Hauls thread will be used to give hints about where boxes are going, adding to the fun. A group mystery beer trade to bring together people to share beer they can't get locally! If you need more or further details, feel free to start a conversation with me! Cheers
Did anybody from Alberta successfully participate last time? I'm interested but I've heard packages coming into Western Canada tend to get seized.
I'd be game, provided it isn't a w(h)ales only type of game... Would marking each bottle "Not for human consumption" help at all if said package are intercepted?
It's definitely not a whales sort of game. Sure, the idea is to send things locally available that you think are GREAT beers, but that doesn't have to equate to expensive or rare. I can't say for certain, but when I read your suggestion, I thought it was absolutely brilliant... Admittedly, we are lopsided a the moment as far as US to CAN ratio, so things need to even out before this is a go and everyone interested can play along, but I think marking the bottles will be a requirement if this gets off the ground.
Any chance we could merge this thread (or close one of the threads) with the one in the main BIF forum, just for ease of following updates?
