I try not to solicit any particular websites, but farmhouse brew supply is doing a presale on 10 gal rum and sorghum whiskey barrels. They're $150 and shipping goes for $20 in the midwest and $50 to the west coast.

I know that at least a few people on the forum are on the hunt for a barrel.

Yeah, I'm waffling on that, or a balcones barrel..

I'd love a rum AND a whiskey barrel, but.. I don't need $400 worth of wood in the garage at the moment.

Where do you get the Balcones barrels?

The rum barrels are awesome. ( I have one ). Sorghum whiskey sounded weird to me so am not pulling the trigger.

I want to know why it's so easy to find spirit barrels, but it's like pulling teeth to find a damned used white wine barrel.

Because its easier to make 50gal of white wine than it is to make 50gal of booze, and the aging issue with wine isnt a problem, with booze all the new small distilleries are looking to put out a product quick = small barrels

I know freshly emptied is best in terms of getting a 'clean' barrel. I'm tempted to purchase a 10 gallon rum barrel (for a big ass RIS), but it says on their site that rum barrels are already in stock. Without knowing how long they've been sitting around, I'm a little trigger shy here.
