I had a desire to make a lemon/lime beer to take a bite out of the summer heat that we are dealing with atm, and I was weighing my options.

Anyone use lemon/lime essential oils in their brews? I know that they are used in soda for flavors, and although the oils cost quite a bit (for larger, 3.4 oz sizes) I think that the amount that Id have to use would actually represent relatively minor overall costs (I'm thinking that about 100-110 drops would give 5.5 gallon batch a pretty strong flavor).

I think that it might harm head retention, but should work overall. I just want to see if anyone has done anything similar before I pull the trigger.

Id add drops to a pint before committing to a whole batch. Then you could scale up using some maths

thanks for the link..it is about equivalent price wise. I was adding a drop of orange to filtered water to enhance for drinking for a while. I think a mix of cherry and vanilla could be interesting in a milk stout or brown porter perhaps.

Maybe, but I've got a feeling that this companies products are of a higher quality than the other one (just based on some user reviews and because their products are specifically geared for cooking and food use).

The possibilities are endless, and the more you buy the more you save on shipping. I was thinking lemmon, lime, and maple...but I could also due for some Raspberry and Vanilla.
