I'm heading up to va beach this weekend to visit a friend, and wondering if there's any good breweries I should hit up, or any good bottle shops.

Definetly hit up Grape and Gourmet for bottles, it's a pretty great shop.
VB is spread out and there are a few breweries (some new-ish) in the area, depending on where you are going. By far my personal favorite is Beach Brewing but opinions vary. There is also Back Bay at the oceanfront, Pleasure House brewing on shore drive, and also Young Veterans brewing. Most will have some decent facebook/online info and you can get a gist of what is available.

Make sure and stop by let's talk wine. Ian gets some great hard to find beers in.

Let's talk wine is a cool shop but it's kinda out of way in Chesapeake . Might not be too far though coming from NC .

For shops G&G for sure . Also , at Hilltop there's Total Wine and Whole Foods about 2 minutes apart . At TW look at the board by the service desk to see if any special beers are in . WF has a nice selection inside and they have the Porch ( bar on the corner ) . Good selection on tap and they fill growlers . Great prices too . Was there a while back and they had Lunch on tap . Wasn't planning on stopping but had to get a pint . $5 pint because it was happy hour !

The only brewery in VB that I've been to lately is Pleasure House Brewing . They just opened at the end of Oct. but they are starting to get things dialed in . They have 5-7 beers on tap and they keep brewing new ones . A bit hit or miss so far but definitely worth checking out .

And if you go there you have to stop by Lynnhaven Pub a few blocks away . My favorite bar , kind of a dive craft beer bar . It's a place where you could be sitting at the bar having a snifter of BCBS next to someone drinking Bud Lite out of the bottle . And no one cares . Only 6 taps but usually some quality stuff and 1 sour . The cold case has a great selection of bottles which they will sell to go at a discount off bar prices . Sat. night they had a few of the Hardywood reserve beers including GBS .
