So my fiancé and I are gonna take a trip up to the PNW over July 4th weekend, probably staying from the 2-9th. Thinking of flying to Seattle and staying until the 5th than going down to Portland but nothing's set in stone. Looking for suggestions of places to visit in both places? Definitely want to visit some breweries, anything on the trip between these two cities? Also looking for suggestions for site seeing, we love the outdoors, mountains, lakes, forests, etc.
All over it, just wondering which city would be better for the 4th celebrations and also If the International Beerfest in Seattle is worth sticking around for? The website doesn't give me a good feeling but looking for local opinions.
I've never been to the International Beer Fest, so can't speak to it. And I'm not a big fan of 4th of July festivities so tend to just stay home with friends and either have a BBQ or a cookout. As for mountains, lakes, and forests, son, this place ain't nuthin' but mountains, lakes, and forests. Mount Rainier National Park is a must. Just do a Google search for such and you'll have more options than you can do.
I think I saw a headline to the effect that Seattle won't be having any fireworks displays this year. That could no longer be true (I'm sure you can check it out) but if you're into the whole Fourth of July thing then that would probably be a consideration. Certainly plenty of outdoor opportunities as BuckeyeOne has said. It's a beautiful part of the country. I'd also recommend a drive up Highway 20 through the North Cascades and over into the Methow, in addition to Rainier. But you can be assured it will probably be rainy and cold until the morning of July 5.
Seafair is taking over Seattle's fireworks show. It will still be at Gas Works Park. I haven't been to the IBF for a few years now. It's ok, many good beers to taste. The last time I went it got a little chaotic with too many people and not enough space. I guess that's why I haven't been back since.
