Just saw this tweeted by the Mass Brewers Guild about Valley Malt in Hadley: http://www.masslive.com/business-ne...valley_malt_in_hadley_goes_with_the_grai.html It's a nice story about adding to the 'source local' effort. I'd heard about them through Jack's Abby since they try to source locally when they can. Interesting that they are the only malt house in the Northeast; I expect we'll see more.
They have a malt of the month club for homebrewers which i took part in last year...but the trip to hadley proved a little too much for me so didn't renew. Would highly recommend it though if they still offer the program for hb'ers.
Yeah, they opened for business right around the time my wife and I thought, "hmmm... all these new local breweries popping up, yet there still is next to nothing in terms of locally malted barley...business idea!" Then we realized we know jack shit about farming and professional malting and stuff...
