I'm right with you on everything. The 'big' $4$ difference could be made up for with an Upland seasonal. If the person made a big deal out of trading me a Black Tuesday, I certainly wouldn't kick them another Upland lambic - I'd probably back out of the deal altogether. Upland was $20 and BT was $25.50.

Lol...yeah, I have a Raspberry for any BT, just throwing that out there. Speaking of the '09,if you'vehadit why don't you head over tomy thread in the beer talk forum. We have questions. I know I've spoke with you before but I don't think it was about the '09 or maybe it was and I need a refresher.

It's basically $20 to $30. Not everyone who scored BT was in the RS this past year. I say that BT for an Upland Kiwi is "generous" in the sense that "FT: BT ISO: Kiwi" would get done a lot more than the reverse. (As the OP seems to have found out from his multiple responses, which is why he asked this question)

Personally, when I'm trading I don't really look at things in terms of $4$ for the beers in the deal though, I think of it more in line with a box including extras. I know if I were on the receiving end of the BT in this deal, and I lived near the Upland brewpub where I could just drive down and pick up another lambic whenever I felt like it, I would certainly include a second (non-Kiwi) one. It's a great extra and helps make up the $4$ gap. I'd send the two lambics and a few more locals, probably $50 box. The BT box would most likely get up in that $40-$50 range with extras, so the deal would end up being pretty even.

Well, my one experience with Upland, which was about a year ago, involved somebody doing exactly that, with 4-5 flavors to choose from. (Strawberry, Ras, Peach, and Blackberry are what I got) He made it sound like that was pretty much the norm, that while you couldn't guarantee any one flavor, there was usually a couple of options there. If that's no longer the case I apologize, but I was under the impression that Kiwi and Persimmon were the only ones that were tougher to get.

I see where you're coming from cbeer but like mongo said picking up the lambics isn't quite so easy anymore, from what I understand. I think the total bottle count for Raspberry and Blackberry was in the 200-400? range and online reservations only allowed one person to reserve one bottle of each. Therefore the chances of even finding someone with multiples that they are willing to trade seems pretty slim since there probably aren't too many people who have more than 1-2 bottles.

I did hear that some bottles do reach distribution and that the bottles that were reserved online and weren't picked up by the deadline were placed back "on the shelf" at Upland. I also heard that the Blackberry sold out in 2 minutes online whereas the Raspberry lasted a little longer. On top of that, they normally rotate through the flavors a few times a year so you never know how long it will be until you see another batch of Kiwi, blackberry, persimmon, etc.

I used to be able to pick up any flavor at will at Sahara Mart. Those days are long gone and those conditions should not be referenced by those looking for the "value" of Upland Lambics. Cantillon used to collect dust too.
