    Hello !

I'm moving to Vancouver (i'm from France) in January, probably for a year... and shame on me I am not familiar with the BC/Canadian beers at all (the only Canadian beer i know is from Quebec...Dieu du ciel !) so some help/informations from BA members would be greatly appreciated )

-Breweries, Beer events, good beer stores...? "bottle shares" ?
    http://www.bcbeer.ca/brewery.aspx ?

    i wanna know what's good to do/see beer-wise ! :grinning:

(ps: just came back from an amazing trip in Belgium, went to Cantillon, 3 fonteinen, Fantôme...i had the best time ever ! i want to keep the beer adventure going !)

oh and what about bringing beers from Europe to Canada ? i saw 8.5 liters somewhere on the internet...does anyone know anything about that ?

    thank you !!

    Hi,

Rules for import of beer are 24 beers at the regular size of 355 ml, if I'm not mistaken.

You're moving to a good place beer wise in Canada. There's a lot to choose from. Your first stop should be the alibi room in gastown where you can try a ton of BC beer. That'll set you up to discover more. There's a big boom in terms of craft brewing in BC right now, with breweries opening up all the time. Good time to come. Oh, and casks are now all over the place, if cask beer is your thing. Join CAMRA as soon as you arrive, and get on the e-newsletter, and you'll be set up with events, bottles in stores, and exciting casks that are upcoming.

Camra also gives you some discounts at breweries, beer stores, and restaurants. Well worth the money. Also, in the past, the government liquor stores have been fairly poorly stocked, so there are lots of privates that are worth checking out. Legacy in the olympic village and the Viti downtown are the best, IMHO. Also Brewery Creek up on Main. But lately, the government has been getting onto the beer bandwagon. For instance, this year's crop of pumpkin beers (unprecedented harvest) was held back for only govt liquor stores.

Best beers in BC. Driftwood, Philips, Parallel 49, Central City, Crannog (only on tap), maybe Tree.

Also take a trip to Victoria. It's a great little beer city with some great breweries, Swan's just for the atmosphere. Beer's so-so, but it's a great little place.

    Welcome to Vancouver

Mmmmm Driftwood. Welcome to Canada! BC is a wonderful part of the world and the beer scene should keep you on your toes (and if it doesn't you're close enough to Washington/Oregon).

What everyone said above! BC is exploding!

I run a monthly-ish event called @YVRBeerTweetup where we try and have unique BC Beers and casks at various places around Vancouver. It's Twitter themed but a good chance to meet fellow beer people in the city.

All kinds of great places to drink - Alibi Room, St Augustines, Portland Craft, Bitter, Gastown in general - you'll take a few weekends to try them all! Breweries here are great and new ones opening all the time.
