Have to be in Vancouver at the end of next week for work - catch is that I (a) don't have much free time time, (b) am staying/having meetings at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport, and (c) won't have a car (unless I catch an Uber). Have also never visited the city before. As I look at making use of the Skytrain's Canada line, it looks like there might be some nearby liquor stores, but I wanted to see if they were worthwhile or if there are other nearby, easily accessible options. I've identified Richmond Liquor Store, which is right by Bridgeport station and Marine Gateway Liquor Store, which is right by the Marine Drive station. Wasting my time? Other options?

The airport is a dead zone for good beer. The fairmont might have some on tap but unlikely.

Canada Line will take you downtown where there's a few shops obviously. Not much in between close to the train other than what you mentioned. Richmond Liquor has a pretty nice selection usually.

Oh and we don't have Uber. Car2Go and Zipcar are both at airport I think.

Thanks for that ... it now turns out that I'm going to have a little more free time than expected, including the opportunity to be downtown. Looking for one recommendation each of bottle shop and pub in the downtown core ... ready, go!

depends what your looking for.. if you get off at the 41st ave stop on the skytrain theres a BC Liquor like a block away. pretty good selection of local craft stuff.. nothing too fancy though.. if you take a 10 min bus west of there, you can hit Westcoast Liquor Kerrisdale which has a good selection and some more limited stuff, as well as some american offerings..

Firefly is probably the best shop closest to the Canada Line, across from City Hall. Depends how much walking you want to do but there's plenty of places with a decent selection of taps downtown, but I'd go with Alibi Room or Darby's Gastown. But if you're sticking to the Downtown Core (which isn't very big tbh) something like Butcher & Bull or Tap & Barrel would have a good local selection, maybe not super rare or seasonal offerings but decent selection.
