Is it bad form to give this as an extra in an IP trade? I thought the first Vanilla Noir I had was excellent so it would be a great IP extra but I just noticed some people have dealt with infection issues. I don't really have any great non-local extras to give so this throws a wrench in my plans. Would you be pissed if I gave this as my extra in an IP trade or am I better off just asking to do the trade straight up? How do you deal with in-person extras? Opinions? Thanks! Ryan
I've sent Peruvian Morning as an extra... but it was an extra extra with a note saying giver er a shot... I didn't experience infection with any of the ones I got and it's a great beer when it's right and a really good beer even when it isn't completely right... maybe post receipt just a note saying hey I sent you a vanill noir cause I think it's awesome, there is a chance it may be infected but if it's not you're going to love it.
I received a 2012 Peruvian Morning morning as an extra in an IP trade & was told "I've had several of these without an issue but others have had an infection issue". I appreciated the opportunity.....unfortunately it was buttery green apple smell & taste =/
An extra is an extra is an extra. Vanilla Noir is delicious when right, and I don't think the infection issues are anywhere close to Peruvian Morning. Send without fear. To me...send to me without fear.
I had 1 given to me as an extra. I was happy even though I've heard negative reviews. I opened it a few days ago. Super rusty cap. The beer itself tasted fine. I thought the carbonation was a little off, but the flavors were there. I liked it.
I thought this too until I saw a post where someone was bitching that they got an overly aged IPA. It certainly has made me more than cautious about sending feebies haha.
A little off topic but is it customary to give extras in an In Person trade? I mean, i get the surprise factor when mailing, combined with making the shipping worthwhile, but when meeting up to exchange bottle for bottle...extras? really? not sure what to expect.
I've always brought some extra bottles during IP trades. Wants if possible and if not then something else.
I always bring an extra to IP trades...just enjoy seeing someone's eyes light up when they get something they weren't anticipating! It's even better than a "WTF" BM!
Id be happy to get one as an extra, and xtras are xtras anyway,and if it's good a very generous one at that. I've had Peruvian Mornings as Xtras and they were really good, luck of the draw.
Including a note as hansenm72 suggested is a good idea. I love Night Stalker but my 2012 bottles are from the infected lot. I tried 2 of em & they were definitely off so I assume the other 4 (from the same lot) are also infected. Including those, even as freebies, would be a douche move. They're almost certain to be bad, which is very different from this situation, where the one you had was good. It has the potential to be an awesome extra.
I drank a vanilla noir last night and it was fantastic. No rust on the cap. Is it a certain batch of vanilla noir that has the problems? Anyone who got bottles from Houston had problems?
