No reason to cellar if you have tried it yet. You have to have a baseline to determine "cellarability". Always drink a fresh as possible to determine if it needs time according to YOUR personal tastes.

Seriously. It's your only bottle, try it fresh. Especially since it's a new release, cellarability hasn't been established yet.

Seriously. Try it fresh. You know there's a reason everyone always says that on here, right?

Also, vanilla is a flavor that fades

:astonished: Zero days. It's been aged for you already. Drink it.

Right and you'll never know if fresh was better than aged! If you do find another bottle age that one.

Yeah, don't wait for best drinkability if you haven't had it. They released it now for a reason. Drink it.

That's why I picked up 2! Give's you options. But seeing as I wouldn't want the Vanilla to fade too much, i'll open my 2nd bottle probably next October.

Means very little because it's a completely different beer but I got a Cherry Rye in October of last year (so what, about a year old?) and it was possibly the best beer I ever had.

Cherry Rye was released in 2012. So about 2 years old.

All beer is meant to be drank as fresh as possible. If you wait 6 months down the road to crack it might be half as good as it was fresh because it lost the vanilla character that makes it VANILLA rye bourbon county stout. I had a few pours of vanilla rye and it already destroys the best bottle of BCBVS that I ever drank... Don't cellar a beer because you only have one bottle. Make the best of your one bottle and drink it fresh.

With all that said, its your bottle of beer so do whatever the Fu@& you want to with it!

Brett Porter and Mike Siegel talk about aging Vanilla on episode 52 of this podcast:
    http://strangebrewspodcast.tumblr.com/episodes

Summary: Lower dissolved oxygen; should age more gracefully than original.

Also, they talk about why they don't release the base for BCBS.

I agree. I never cellar anything until I had it once fresh first to determine a. If I like this beer enough to even want to cellar it and b. to determine how it will change after so many months/years.
As you said, if u never had it fresh how will u know how different it was from fresh?

I had it on tap and have just 1 bottle and won't be drinking it for a long long time way to much vanilla.

Do yourself a favor and put at least a year on Vanilla Rye. It needs time.

I also tried it on tap and thought the vanilla was too strong and the flavors not particularly well integrated.
If I only had one bottle without the likelihood for another, I'd at least give it 6 months. (I have no bottles, so I'll be interested to read how it develops.)
