OK, I was hoping that someone could summarize the info related to Lost Abbey's Veritas Series. Any and all pertinent info including but not limited to:

    - Bottle/case count for each release
    - Type/style of beer and details about how they were made and additives included, etc, etc, etc
    - Cost per bottle and how they were sold initially (at an event, at the brewery tasting room, friends and family only, etc)
    - Specific facts about each release (ie, numbered on cork/back label/both/none, bottle limits, etc)
    - Anything else that might be interesting...

    Here is a start:

    Veritas 001 – 35 cases
    Veritas 002 – 20 cases (never sold)
    Veritas 003 – 70 cases
    Veritas 004 – 70 cases
    Veritas 005 – 6 cases (never sold)
    Veritas 006 – 50 cases
    Veritas 007 – 50 cases
Veritas 008 – 125 bottles sold to those who bought an 80$ ticket to 4th Annual Barrel night
    Veritas 009 – 100 cases
Veritas 010 – 600 bottles publicly released (300 people got up to 2 bottles each at 5th Annual Barrel Night)
    Veritas 010 - ???

Whoever posts the best information (cumulatively in this thread) by July 1st will receive a free box of goodies from me including but not limited to either a RRB Beatification and/or a Veritas 009. If you don't want the free beer, please don't let it discourage you from sharing your wisdom. I can always send the box to a surrogate/honorary winner on your behalf.

Thanks for looking, have at it...

Veritas 009 – Was actually 117 cases, but only 100 were made available to those attending release day, which was 5/28/10. They were $35 each and the bottle limit was 4.

At this point, no shit. I'll be in touch unless Tomme himself chimes in with better info.

Why were the newer releases not listed wherever you found that info? V009 to V011?

Veritas 004 did not have Cuvee de Tomme in it. This is a commonly propogated bit of misinformation, based on a photo of some notes taken at the brewery that identified the blend components in shorthand/abbreviated terms. The photo was posted on a message board (can't remember if it was here or on RateBeer), and I believe it said something like "1 - YB, 2 - DDG, 1 - MY" (don't quote me on the proportions). The assumption was that "MY" was referring to Cuvee de Tomme (e.g. written by Tomme Arthur do describe his namesake as "MY" beer). So then someone from the RB/BA said, "1 part Yellow Bus, 2 parts Duck Duck Gooze, 1 part Cuvee de Tomme," to which a Lost Abbey employee responded, "Correct!"

    And the rest was history.

But "MY" did not refer to Cuvee de Tomme. It referred to "Mellow Yellow," which is a sour blonde base that Lost Abbey commonly uses for blending purposes in their barrel program.

Just an outdated page, I suppose.

    I'll keep digging, though.

Veritas 009. "Veritas 009 is a substantial departure from earlier members of The Lost Abbey’s small batch experimental program, which were generally sour beers aged in French oak barrels for 12 to 15 months. Begun in late 2007 as dark base beer, it was sent to freshly emptied bourbon barrels from Kentucky’s Heaven Hill Distilleries. The beer aged for 15 months before it was moved into French oak barrels previously used for wine (primarily Syrah). Sour cherries were added and the beer was left to rest for another year and three months. Finally, in mid-2010, it was pulled from the barrels, blended, bottled and sent off to condition for an additional 11 months." Tomme said this was a black base with sour cherries.

    Release date: May 28, 2011

    Rumored bottle count: 1404

Veritas 010. This beer is rumored to have some sort of relation to Lost Abbey's famed Yellow Bus, as 010 is also a wild ale with peaches. Tomme confirmed this was a yellow sour with yellow peaches. These are different peaches than the ones used in Yellow Bus and Veritas 004.

    Release date: November 5, 2011

Veritas 010 (aka "Volo") was a blend of four different barrels of sour blonde base beer, which I believe were all the same base of Mellow Yellow (although I have not confirmed this 100% with anyone from the brewery). After the base beer had soured on its own, these barrels were spiked with several hundred pounds of fresh, organic yellow Elberta peaches, then aged for about 2 months before bottling.

Veritas 011 was I believe only 2 (or possibly 3 barrels), and started out as a new base beer of an American Barleywine (read "hoppy barleywine") that Lost Abbey has never made before, but which was specifically designed for this recipe. It was aged in Cognac barrels before being spiked with fresh, organic yellow Le Grand nectarines (and brettanomyces), then aged for about 2 months before bottling.

    A slight update on V011:

Veritas 011 is a Barleywine aged in McCall Cognac Barrels for 11 months. We added some fresh nectarines over the summer and hit it with a splash of Brett Clausenii. It is not sour and may only develop a bit a fruity Brett qualities over time, so we aren’t expecting a full blown sour ale. ABV is 12.85%.
We bottled enough that everyone at the Barrel Night will get one 750ml bottle and can purchase one additional bottle for $35. As with all the Veritas, this will never hit general distribution.

There was no mead in Veritas 001.

Veritas 007 did not use any Isabelle Proximus. Base was either mellow yellow, sour avant garde, or a blend of the two. I can't remember.

There were only 6 cases of Veritas 005. Considering bottles opened at beer dinners, entered into competition, consumed at the brewery, and bottles that have made their way to the trading market (and then consumed), I imagine there's less than a case left. I'll bet there's about that much or slightly more Dave out there, but it's mostly in the cellars of Oregon mountain people who no longer have contact with the outside world. So, while I think there's more Dave extant, it's harder to find.

Never thought I would see the day that a Veritas series beer gets shat upon more than Veritas 008, but 009 gets all the hate these days. For the record, I enjoy Veritas 009.
