Thinking good thoughts for our brewers and bar owners in VT during the flooding. Particularly for downtown Waterbury, which saw flooding destroy The Alchemist pub in 2012. I saw a picture from the ProPig story on Insta of flooding in the streets there again. Please post updates here if you see any news.

I don’t think this was at the scale of Irene there. Hopefully all good

It has been more devastating than Irene in many areas, notably Montpelier as pointed out above.

It rivals Irene along the Winooski. Maybe worse. I am trapped on the high ground across the river from Waterbury, literally cannot go anywhere (glad we have that big deep freeze) so have no first hand knowledge. I am a selectboard member here in Duxbury, so went down early to take a look:

Local businesses are understandably not posting much online. Blackback owners live in the flood plain here in Duxbury.

Glad to hear you are safe, thanks for sharing the photos. I spend a lot of time in that area, have run many miles on River Rd. Seeing the baseball fields completely covered is wild.

As of 3pm the river was still rising; some of the paved part of River Rd. west of the bridge might now be underwater. Though the system cleared out quickly about noon and it is now almost freakishly cloudless for VT in summer. More rain for Thu-Fri-maybe beyond.

I ran a few miles on River Rd. in my younger fitter days but not my favorite, especially dust on the gravel portion. Did the Leaf Peepers a few times though. I ski on the rec fields in winter and watch the kid's senior league baseball in summer (yes, I'm old) so Dac Rowe Lake does look a little freakish.

Oh yeah, it is. Montpelier led national news tonight with a cresting flood height that surpassed Irene's in 2011, and is still completely underwater. Waterbury still has flooding and road closures. Interstate was closed for 24 hours. Winooski River still hasn't crested in Richmond - this event is a 2-3 day duration and Irene was 12 hours. South and east of the Greens, towns are entirely cut off. Burlington is virtually unscathed. Fortunately, Irene trained us for a faster response & better resilience.

The big culverts Duxbury put in after Irene and subsequent storms have paid off this week. No saving the low lying parts of River Road though.

Prohibition Pig closed for the foreseeable future, per VTdigger. The brewing equipment and walk-in refrigerator were lost.

I saw a federal disaster declaration. Really hope that money can also get into the hands of businesses and insurance claims are processed quickly! Small town businesses don't have a huge nest egg, and many of the good folks in VT would trade supporting their employees rather than staying ahead of other bills.

Jesus, I assume if they get this covered, Insurance will be next to impossible moving forward if any changes happen. Given Jen and John weren’t covered when their unfortunate disaster happened. Sucks so bad

not a good location, anymore. The hundred year flood event now seems to be a twelve year flood

The flood maps were all redrawn after Irene in 2011 - nearly impossible to get flood insurance if your house or business is included in the revised areas.

A plug for one of our favorite places. We were just there Sunday before the flood:

    https://savoytheater.com/

We will be back as soon as they open, even if we have to catch a bad movie to support them. Though Oppenheimer, which sounds great is scheduled for the near future.

Please support them if you're nearby.

Here's a gofundme for the employees of Three Penny to help them out while the place rebuilds.

Spent the day in Waterbury Saturday at Freak Folk and Blackback. Everything open and on the mend. Not so Barre-Montpelier - clean-up continues. Volunteers welcomed, but gawkers not allowed in city center.
