heading up to Burlington tonight with my kids (2 & 5 years old) and spending the weekend up there. Never really spent time in B-town so looking for advice on good places to hit with kids. Driving up after work tonight and won't be there until 6:30-ish (hoping to make it to Fiddlehead for a growler fill before closing). Is Friday night at Vermont Pub & Brewery too much of a scene for little ones? (i've heard flatbread is WAY too much of a scene for little ones) I was also told Our House Bistro in Winooski might be a good stop with kids on Friday night as well. Thanks in advance
VPB & Flatbread are actually excellent choices for children, they are just very busy. The same is true for the Farmhouse. With St Patty's day falling on a weekend this year the entire Church St area will be busy. Our House can be the same way on weekends, I might try Vermont Sports Grill (decent kids menu) You will also find all of the national chain rest. in the area that might be easier with kids. There is a pizza place in the same bldg as Fiddlehead and there are numerous places on Rt 7 heading to Burlington (Uno's, Olive Garden and tons of local joints).
heard they were great for kids too, just my timing maybe off for the "kid-friendly" atmosphere, was actually hoping to head to flatbread for lunch on saturday when it will hopefully be quieter, but would love to try Pub & Brewery as well. Thanks for the recommendations.
Dave, Flatbread is awesome for families, and the after-work crowd usually disperses by 7pm. Pub & Brewery would be my second choice if you are with little ones - far more post-college kids there. Farmhouse Tap & Grill around the corner can be good for families, but only if you can get there early - like 5pm to get a table. Better idea - hit the Bobcat on your way up Rte. 7 iin Bristol, which is where I go when I am heading home from your neck of the woods. Mark the brewer has 2 kids the exact same age, and they eat there all the time. And the food & beers are stellar. Call & make a reservation - they are my go-to when coming up from southern VT.
A friend and I stopped by Fiddlehead; they currently have two beers on tap: porter and an IPA, which were both fresh and tasty. The brewer plans to stick with fresh beers and maintain a regional distribution. There is a pizza restaurant (in the same building); however, it was not opened.
