They responded on FB today to someone who asked about dating the cans and they said straight up that they do not date the cans. These numbers must not be a born on date etc...

Even more reason to avoid going during peak tourist season.

Honestly, we were quite disappointed by our trip to Alchemist. As soon as we entered, we were ushered straight to the cash register and asked what we wanted. No time to peruse merchandise. We were given a sample, but hard to enjoy standing there with a case in a small area in front of the merchandise people are trying to quickly assess. We ended up quickly drinking our sample and leaving. Hill Farmstead was a much better experience despite ongoing renovation. We had time to enjoy samples (4 for $5). Much better done...

P.S. I am envious of your location... beautiful countryside (even after the leaves have fallen) and world-class beer.

Thanks Duane_Opfer. BTW, you know John Kimmich is an enormous Steelers fan right? Being from Pitt and all.

With a car load of Heady and HF, who needs to go out to a bar?

Prohibition Pig had a few HF beers not available at the brewery, namely Susan... both HF and Prohibition Pig. Reservoir, and Blackback post what beers are on tap either on website or FB

Then why would John explicitly say they don't date the cans?

I think he means that it is a Bell's batch number (i.e., date the can was made), not the date that the can was filled./

Well that would imply when Ball made them and have nominal correlation to when the beer entered them (if the Ball angle is true). Kimmich saying that they (Alchemist) don't date their cans is accurate.

Breweries buy cans in crazy bulk. I'm sure they sit on cans for a while before filling them, so it wouldn't be very easy to correlate the date.

I think we're on the same side of the argument here. My point was that this type of code is on any can manufactured by Ball, and it has nothing to do with when the can was filled with beer.

For example, here are pictures I just took from cans of Oskar Blues and 21st Amendment that have similar codes. Both of these beers have separate "brewed" dates stamped on the bottom of the cans by the brewery.
