I know there are many threads involving Chicago..But I have very little time and am only there for a day...Im going to a convention on Wednesday..Im staying at the Essex Inn on Michigan Ave right across from Grant Park..Is there any place right in that vicinity that I must hit? I know it may be too specific, but wondering if anyone would know...Greatly appreciate it..

I haven't been but howled and good in the tribune building is new. Supposedly a good beer list. If u venture out of the loop map: room, hop leaf and piece pizza are good.

Did you forget about BeerMenus and Google? They are your friend. I've been to Chicago probably close to 200 times but still use them every time I go.

You've got 2 Walgreens (randolph & state being the better one) and a binnys within a mile. Binnys on grand is about 1.5 miles.

Hackneys is .3 miles from your hotel, with a solid tap list as well as bottles to go.

As I said, I've been to chicago many times, but still will spend probably 2 hours each time just simply looking at beermenus and twitter pages for recent tap lists. A good tap list to you may not be very good to the next person....

Is a good tap list to you filled with beers from all over the country in many different styles?
Is a good tap list one that is filled with many local beers?
Many beers that are hard to find/rare??
You looking for a list filled with lots of IPA's, pale ales, and sours? Or one that is filled with lots of stouts/porters, etc.
You want a tap list of many foreign/Belgian style beers?

Many different preferences when it comes to tap lists, which is why beermenus is so helpful to let each individual decide what they prefer.

Very general: Villains is a decent bar nearby, closest brewpub (at least from when I lived there) was Haymarket, Monk's has a pretty good beer list and burger, there's a liquor store right around the corner on Wabash (Warehouse liquors). Grab some Al's or Cafecito for lunch if you're looking for something a bit quicker. Gage is a decent pricey option toward Millenium Park.

You are only about 2 miles from Haymarket Pub & Brewery, worth the cab ride.
