    Victor Downhill Gravity Race
    July 21st 2012
    Sponsored by Motherlode Liquors

This will not be your normal soapbox derby. This unique non-motorized racing event challenges you to design and build outrageous, eccentric, gravity powered soapbox vehicles and compete against the clock and other teams in a downhill competition. This is a race for amateur drivers, which is fueled by creativity and competitive fun. All vehicles must be kinetic powered, meaning no engines or external energy sources are allowed. All ages are encouraged to participate. One driver per vehicle but having a crew to cheer the team on will increase your showmanship points. So form a team and possibly get sponsored for an event that will promise to bring laughter and fun to an afternoon of racing.

Teams will be judged on three criteria: speed, creativity and showmanship:

Creativity – 40% - The more outrageous and awe inspiring the vehicle, the higher the score. Your team can have a theme or the vehicle can just be designed to blow the crowds mind.

Showmanship – 30% - This will be awarded for team spirit. Get everyone on the team involved by wearing costumes, uniforms or walking the street gaining support. (Bribes are allowed)

Speed - 30% - Although having the fastest vehicle is always nice; this competition is more about creativity and team showmanship.

    Entry Cost: $20.00 / Includes T-shirt

The course: Downtown Victor, Colorado, starting at the corner of 4th and Victor Avenue and running downhill (7-9% grade) past the Gold Bowl and coasting to a stop on the uphill portion at the bottom.
The Vehicle: All vehicles must be kinetic powered, meaning no engines or external energy sources are allowed. The craft can not exceed a maximum of 6’ wide, 18’ long and no taller than 7’. A completely functional braking and steering system as well as sufficient passenger protection will be required because we can not be held responsible for keeping you in line or stopping you. A safety check will be required prior to entry into the competition.

Team: One driver and up to three additional pit personnel to cheer the team on will increase your showmanship score. A signed release of liability will be required by the driver prior to the start of the race. So form a team and possibly get sponsored for an event that will promise to bring laughter and fun to an afternoon of racing.

The Prizes: Cash prizes will be awarded for each of the three judging criteria as well as a trophy and bragging rights to the top overall winning team.

    Schedule:
11:00am - Vehicles can begin lining up in the pit area located at the starting line for spectator viewing and judging.
12:00pm – Competition begins with individual runs
    2:00pm? – Awards ceremony

Judges: A board of community leaders and/or personalities.
