I was at a bottle share today and heard a rumor from a Ballast Point rep saying something about Victory at Sea variations possibly coming out...one of them being a Cap'n Crunch variety? Has anybody else heard about this?

This is my favorite V@S variant of those I have tried. Ballast Point had it on cask when I was there in February this year. It is brewed with lactose sugar and "dry hopped" with cereal. Ballast Point did a bunch of V@S variants for the V@S day last December. Some of them made it to the Bay area for SF Beer Week.

This seems like a natural place to expand into.

I wish they'd concentrate more on V@S variants than all the other random one-offs.

Agreed, on average, the VaS variants are quite a bit better than a lot of the variants of their pale/hoppy beers, especially a lot of the pepper infusions. Habanero Sculpin is good if you're drinking 4oz of it, and it more or less goes downhill from there. If they bottled certain VaS variants and either sold them at the brewery or did a BPT setup, they'd slaughter it.

I'm not sure how much they really want to bottle their specialty beers (history up to this point says "not at all" since they've yet to even bottle a barrel aged beer, let alone the more exotic creations), but I'd love to see 12oz bottles of some of the better VaS variants.

Victory at Cereal is a strange animal. You have one of it, and it is great. If you have a second glass, the diabetic coma kicks in and it makes you want to vomit.

The bartender at Ballast Point told me not to drink too much of it and implied that in large amounts (more than a pint) it would do a number on one's GI tract.

You've not lived until you had the Captain Crunch that was at the bottom of the Cereal at Sea tank.

They had a ton of variations last beer week at Hamiltons. If I remember, Pumpkin Pie and Mole were my two favorites (with the pumpkin pie also making a phenomenal float). Victory at Cereal was also great. I doubt I could have more than 8oz of any of them though.

I've had a version with cherries, cocoa nibs, and oak chips on cask at the brewery.

Monkey pie? That sounds a little disgusting, though I'm sure there are quite a few of those a mile or so to the north.

[I know you meant Monkey Paw, but work with me here.]
