I find Hop Stoopid to be a below average DIPA. I buy it occasionally (probably 5 times, all bottles) just to see if my opnion has changed, and it never has. Its entirely possible that I'm always getting oldish bottles, but it has disappointed me each time, especially considering how much praise it recieves on this site. Sure its priced well for a DIPA in a 22oz, but I can get Green Flash Imperial IPA for the same price and it blows Hop Stoopid away.

As to Dirtwolf vs Lagunitas Sucks
I purchased 2 cases of Sucks this year, fucking loved it, and was sad when I couldn't get more. I've only had 1 bottle of Dirtwolf so far and I enjoyed it, but need to drink more to form a better basis for comparison.

    This thread is nuts.

First, cat piss is one of the most wretched smells on the face of the earth, it cracks me up some of you guys are describing it as a positive attribute.

Second, Dirtwolf is rock solid, and one of the best new DIPA's I've had in a while. Sucks is also very good, but in no way is it head and shoulders better than Dirtwolf.

It's been my experience that the best IPA's/DIPA's can only be so good. If you are able to try them all relatively fresh, there is a very large handful of top tier ones to be had. Both Sucks and Dirtwolf are part of this group IMO.

For those of us impatiently waiting for Sucks don't worry. Go and get yourself some Brown Sugga, can't say it's as good but it's definitely a substitute for Sucks . Recently purchased a sixer of Brown Sugga, tried it that night and it's a awesome beer. Funny using the Brown Sugga as the substitute when Sucks is the substitute for Brown Sugga. Life is uncertain, don't sip. Cheers!

I got a sixer of Brown Sugga as well, have yet to crack one open but I hope it does substitute Sucks in one way or another

It's been since last year that I had Sucks, so this is a hard comparison to make. I am more comfortable comparing DirtWolf to Enjoy By 11.12 which, truth be told, I preferred.

That said, DirtWolf is good. And I can see the natural Lagunitas comparison as there is a dank, pine characteristic going on. Though, I find DirtWolf's aroma nearly subtle for the anticipated character of the beer. Moreover, the flavor profile, which may otherwise be good, is overshadowed by dominating peppery hop spice.

Recalling Sucks, I seem to remember a fuller beer offering more complex flavor notes. Though they are similar, I would join the side preferring Sucks over this though.

And, in general, DirtWolf, in my opinion, fails to meet the hype surrounding it.

I herd that victory is out of dirtwolf until the end of November, when they can brew more. So the initial shipments might have to last..

2 of my favorites. Dirt wolf is much more piney, earthy and dank to me. Sucks is more of a Citra/Tropical fruit bomb. Theyre 2 of the best priced hop fixes out there. Id thrown Hoptimum in there too.

Im also curious to see how future batches of dirt wolf pan out.

    Neither does DirtWolf.

It's predominantly big peppery hop spice. To me, thin. Washes away easily with a bit of an onion aftertaste, and nothing more.

Dominated by that hop spice, to the point that, in my opinion, it works to its detriment. DirtWolf's flavor profile has things going on that could make it unique among the style, but they are unfortunately overwhelmed by popping hop bitterness.

Like I said, I haven't had Sucks in a year, so the comparison is difficult. But I don't recall it totally abandoning complexity quite like DirtWolf has.

I also agree that Hopstoopid is way underated!

Did you find DirtWolf to be have a full body??

To each their own, of course. And DirtWolf was good, no doubt.

But it definitely seemed thin to me, and washed away quickly. Whether moreso than Sucks is hard for me to say because I am a year removed. But hopefully not for long!

At this pint, DW wins by default. I can't wait for Sucks to be available again.

One thing confuses me though, I have never had cat piss, however, I feel that I would not enjoy consuming it.

    This^

Comparing these two is rather silly, since it is clear through just about every post here that they just aren't that similar. Just because they are both labeled as DIPA/IIPA doesn't mean they need to be identical, nor that they should even be compared if vast differences exist.

This would essentially be like comparing Sucks to 90 minute. One is a light-bodied tropical hop bomb (Sucks) and one is a thick, dank, earthy malt bomb (90-minute). This goes back to a thread I posted a few weeks back that was *soundly* rejected by the bros about whether or not we should start distinguishing between DIPA (lighter, fruity hop bombs) and IIPA (thicker, malt bombs).
