I love Victory in general. Quality beers in a number of styles. I also love living an hour from the brewery, because I can find just about anything they put out.

One of my favorite IIPA's and agree its all that was stated. With that said, Odell's Myrcenary fits all the aforementioned categories and would be my ultimate choice. But its a choice of 2 favorites.

Also, got to admit I went in a skeptic with Dirtwolf. Victory's prior offerings never did anything for me, figured this would be the same. WRONG.

I can see how someone would be underwhelmed by Hop Devil if expecting a very citrusy pellet (I)IPA like Dirtwolf. Hop Devil (IMO) is much more comparable to Dogfish Head 60 Minute or Sierra Nevada Torpedo. I bet you'd like Victory's other fruity pellet IIPA, Hop Ranch, a lot. Released late Dec./early January if my memory serves me.

So I've heard! I really enjoy fresh Founders Imperial Stout and Stone IRS, and I've been really impressed with everything I've had from Victory, so I have a good feeling about Storm King :grinning: The hoppiness seems to overpower a certain (apple-y?) flavor of high gravity malt I'd rather not have in my stouts.

Completely agree, I buy a 4 pack a week or so. Hercules and Palate Wrecker are also amazing DIPA's that are very reasonably priced, around 24/7, and come in 4 packs.

if you like Founders and Stones you will not like Storm King it is nothing like those two. Well let me rephrase that you might like Storm King but it is completely different from those two stouts.

I really want to try Hop Ranch, but I have yet to see it in Wisconsin.

Better bargain overall? Torpedo, maybe, but not much else comes close. Equally good, readily available DIPAs? I'd put Sixpoint Resin above it, and ST 2xIPA pretty damn close.

I almost always have either (or both) Resin/DirtWolf in my fridge. Year-round, fantastic, readily available in my area, and well-priced.

Really like Dirtwolf and the price per 4 pack at $9.99, but Ohio has better DIPA's around, most notably BODHI

Thanks for the tip! I have also heard it has fairly more hop aroma than either of the two I listed, perhaps I should have also said that I also enjoy hoppy blacks like Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous and FW Wookey Jack. I picked Founders and Stone to give an example that I enjoy other examples of hoppy, high IBU (Stone IRS is equal to Storm King, Founders is 25 IBU higher than both) imperial stouts. I have heard that there is no widely available good comparison to Storm King, which has me even more excited to try it :grinning:

It's probably all gone for the year, and IMO best avoided if you found some. At ~6months old, it will be a shadow of what it was the first couple of months. Keep an eye out at the beginning of next year!

Lol ok.....just try it you will start to rethink the IBU system it tastes nothing like those two I'd consider narwhal a hoppy stout, and Old Rasputin, maybe Yeti too Founders reminds me of Ten Fidy which is just delightful....I adore Hop Ranch I drank m last one with 3 months on it and was impressed how well it held up.

I would add that the Lagunitas family of bombers is also a bargain and the GL Edmund Fitzgerald is also a slam dunk. Unfortunately, most of the beers listed in this thread are pretty pricey in my parts, the Ruination, Hercules and Palate Wrecker. We also don't get Odell, so I've never had it.
I've just been loving DW a lot lately so this thread has been at the tip of my fingers for awhile. $2.50 a beer for a beer this good is just refreshing considering how much I pay for most of my other beer.

I'd pick DW over Ruin almost every time if it was a couple bucks cheaper. The Mixed 12's are the real bargain IMO, but it really helps that I love every other beer in the pack.

Palate Wrecker's more for me too, usually $12-13/4 for me vs. Dirtwolf at $10. Green Flash Imperial IPA bombers are usually only $5 when I see them, though (very different than PW, only Nugget and Summit). Not knocking Palate Wrecker either, I love the stuff.

Speaking of Lagunitas- I'd put Maximus in that category, too. Probably my favorite from them.

I have to admit it's growing on me, maybe because they are improving the consistency. I have to admit it's the cheapest quality DIPA out there, no question. Now if only Hop Ranch was also year round...

I've heard this from a lotta BAs... Yet can't seem to find it myself anywhere in SD. Am I just going to the wrong bottleshops? Or is it really that hard to find here. I've had more success finding PtE regularly! If it's as affordable and good as many say, I'm definitely excited to try (still have yet to!)

Yeah. What can I say. I was a few beers in, and it was getting to be bed time. No sense in forcing down a beer I wasn't enjoying.

I think they definitely had a few bumps in the beginning. My last few purchases have been stellar, though. If they can keep this up it'll be hard to look elsewhere for my IPA fix.

I don't know if I could drink Hop Ranch regularly- I got a savory oniony undercurrent from it. Definitely a quality beer, though.

I hear ya. But as for Hop Ranch, I get more of a fruity hop taste like GL Chillwave, no onion at all. Then again, I never got an onion taste from Gubna either.
