Would like to know the ABV and how long it was aged. Too many breweries hide this type of info. I might go and try it if they give out more details and it turns out they aged it more than 6 months.

I don't think I've seen breweries that are hiding this information, especially the abv.

I meant hiding the length of time in the barrel. Hoppin Frog does things like "aged 5 times longer" instead of just saying how many months. Others just keep it quiet. Obviously, you can't hide the ABV. I didn't think I had to make that distinction clear.

Ha no worries, never noticed that on hoppin frog though, pretty strange if that's true.

What is the right amount of months?

How long does GI keep their BCBS variants in barrels before they bottle?

Nevermind....the answer seems to be, "nearly a year".....though it sounds like the Rare is aged for 2 years?

Why is 6 months the key?

About 8 months. There is some variance caused by the logistics related to the volume of BCBS they make.

I tried a two-month-aged Bourbon County straight from the barrel and it was still not great, harsher in flavor and thinner in body than the beer I've come to know and love. I also sampled the beer with five months age on it. By this point it was becoming somewhat recognizable and enjoyable. It now had a thicker mouthfeel and that bourbon-y sweet flavor was starting to appear.

Still, why is Bourbon County "done" at around a year? Wouldn't it reason the longer it ages the better it gets? Siegel doesn't believe so, telling me, "There is a law of diminishing returns. Significantly after two years when oxidization takes hold." In other words, even though Bourbon County is incredibly resilient—at a whopping 14.4% ABV—the more oxygen that enters its barrels, the more the beer starts expressing negative, often soy sauce-like flavors.

Plus it takes up a lot of space in the breweries. Gotta get it out of there at some point.

So it looks like I am not going to get to Victory until Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving. With the release being on that Wednesday, anyone have any insight as to whether or not bottles will still be around through the weekend? Any clue about # of bottles released and/or limits?

I was also wondering if anyone had any details other than the 11/25 release date. Time? Limits? Price?

If it is done the same way as the previous barrel releases like Dark Intrigue you should be able to find it at a distributor for cheaper than at Victory on Wednesday.

Just found out ABV is 14%.

So it wont be similar to any other beers (deep cocoa/storm king/etc) that theyve had before.

I forget what our rep said, but im pretty sure he said 5 months. could be wrong on that though.

I think its going to be a winner.

So is this still set for release next Wednesday, the 25th? I'll probably head there around noon if it is.
