    Coming Soon!May 2015

Got this in my email today. Did I miss this news? Did a quick search here and found nothing.

When I searched the web I found a Beer Street Journal article about it from back in February.

Victory Sour Monkey is a new twist on the brewery’s year round favorite, Golden Monkey. The Belgian-style tripel has spent some time fermenting with Brettanomyces yeast and souring bacteria.

This electrifying transformation of our famed Golden Monkey may just blow your mind. Tastefully twisted to offer nuances of sweet fruit and sharp tang of tartness, this exhilarating combination of flavors makes this brew a Monkey all its own. C’mon respect the monkey and taste Victory!

Victory Sour Monkey will be available in 750ml bottles. The brewery has not yet announced this beer.

    Style: American Wild Ale
    Availability: 750ml Bottles
    Release: TBA

    9.5% ABV

Note: This is a “first look” preview. Details are subject to change at anytime by the brewery.

Glad to see that Victory is expanding their horizons. Hopefully they nail these recent and upcoming "sour" releases, would be nice to have a relatively easy to find solid sour.

Me too, how I hope this is good. I like Golden Monkey and this sounds really, really good.

It'll be interesting to see how 'sour' it really is. Though the Wild Devil didn't have souring bacteria it sounds similar to me.

I'm curious, but I can't say Golden Monkey is on my radar. It's the into to craft beer for fratboys around this area, looks like a Bud Light but tastes better and 'will get you drunk'. It's a fine beer until you have any other tripel and then realize it's mediocre at best, and against a true Belgian offering like a Westmalle it's just awful.

It's not a terrible beer as I remember but it's been at least a year so I'll try it again. This however looks really interesting and hope it makes its way to us, RDMII.

I may have been a bit harsh, it's a decent tripel if you've never had a tripel, but every other one I've had was a lot better. Even the American offerings like Long Strange, Merry Monks, and the New Belgium are light years better IMO.

The Kirsch Gose was pretty good in my opinion, and I usually don't care for cherries. I like Golden Monkey. Sure it's no La Fin du Monde, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
We need more readily available sours that don't cost upwards of $30. Most buyers won't dish out that kind of money if they haven't had a sour before.
    I'm all for this.

Golden Monkey's not bad. I agree that there are many better ones out there, especially true Belgian tripels, but for the most part it's easy-to-find, not too expensive, and a fairly solid option. Plus the fact that it comes in 6-packs makes it easy to take places/share, since it's more difficult to find 12oz bottled tripels, (at least here in NH).

Totally agree with this, 100%. Add some sourness to it and I think I'll really enjoy it. I'm looking forward to it, I wish it would come in 12 ounce bottles but I bet it will be corked 750's, that's the way Victory does their special bottlings.

Yeah I mean they've only logged about 230 something different beers covering 50 something different styles.

    Slackers.

Wild Devil is delicious....but you gotta love brett. In fact, I let mine sit a bit to let the brett come out even more. I love that beer.

Totally agree. The price of sours puts them in the category of special occasions only. As much as I love beer, I can get a pretty great bottle of wine for $30 at Costco, which makes it even harder to throw down the cash for a 5% abv product that might disappoint.
Looking forward to trying this if I hear it is any good and is available next time I'm back home.
Edit: I know they are not all 5%...just making a point.

"We need more readily available sours that don't cost upwards of $30."

Although I agree with that sentiment, if you don't think a 9.4% ABV sour coming in a 750ml bottle via Victory is gonna cost upwards of $30 you're sadly mistaken.

Wild Devil was only $8.99 near me. I can't see this one costing more than $15 at the most. I bet it's less than $15 and nowhere near $30.

This. It won't be close to $30.
