Any folks seen Victory Summer Variety on shelves anywhere in the mid-atlantic? Or Mad King's Weiss for that matter? AB
I've only noticed Mad King in one store in and around NYC (The Sampler in Brooklyn). It shows up in two other NYC spots on beermenus.
Mad King is in bombers around the Philly region. I'm sure it will start making its way around shortly.
I too was looking for the variety pack and I saw on their fb last weekend that they had just finished bottling the Session IPA so I am sure it will be arriving in stores shortly. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled today while I am out and about but you'd think getting it into the stores for the holiday weekend would be a smart move.
Talked to my local beer guy yesterday, he sells a lot of Victory beers, has 15 cases on order but doesn't yet have a firm date for availability.
Tom, I spoke to one of my local beer guys and he thought he would receive some of the variety pack for this weekend (Memorial Day weekend) but his wholesaler (Gretz) simply informed him that it is not available yet; Gretz did not provide any details on when it would be available. Cheers!
Wegmans in KOP had a lot, some in the cooler and many more on the floor near the registers. I grabbed a pack and was able to try the two new beers and I was slightly disappointed, but I am sure others may like them. I'm a big fan of Victory but the Session IPA is a watered down Hop Ranch to me and the Dry Hopped Pils has an odd smell/taste to it that I just couldn't quite put my finger on, and I'm assuming that they may have used a different type of hop in this that I am not used to. Summer Love didn't taste much different than the others but it ended up being my favorite from the pack so far which surprised me, as I recalled liking this beer but not really loving it, and I couldn't even tell you when I had it the last time. It's been years since I had the Whirlwind Wit and I am looking forward to trying it again. I would still recommend buying it to try the new beers and of course taste is subjective so you may feel differently about them. However for me, Summer Love, Session IPA and Dry Hopped Pils were a little too similarly tasting to me for there to be any real variety in a variety pack. Not bad beers by any means, just not quite what I was expecting.
Thanks for your post & reply. It is 'interesting' that Wegmans seems to get 'preferred' service vs. my local beer distributors. I am sure that it is nothing personal, just business. Cheers!
Wouldn't be the first time a distributor has given preference to a large account over a smaller account... :-)
No problem and glad you were able to grab a pack! Curious to hear what your thoughts on the beers are then. I had the Dry Hopped Pils and Session IPA again and my feelings have not changed. The Whirlwind Wit was good so this and Summer Love are my two favorites from the pack.
