Am I the only one who thinks this beer blows? I was super excited for a new Victory seasonal, especially for a session saison in 6 packs, but this is horrible. It tastes like toothpaste. All I get is ginger and coriander. It tastes like the awful home brewed witbier I made when I first started, when I was like fuck it, how bout some cardamom!? Color me severely disappointed. I'm quite surprised the early reviews seem to be fairly good.

    Maybe an off bottle?

I'll be reviewing it pretty soon, so I'll try to remember to post here when I do.

Had a six pack and I liked it so much I bought a case today. Refreshing and light. Will be buying many cases this summer.

    Enjoy

I'll admit that it wasn't what I expected; which was son of Helios or Jack D'Or. But accepting it for what it is: a "session" saison, and per the Victory website "bracing but benign" I find it to be an enjoyable beer that at ~4.5% abv you can enjoy many. And I think once the weather warms up I'll like it even more.

I saw some reviews on the other site that kind of killed this one also but I totally disagree. Maybe you did get an off bottle but I thought it was fantastic. Super light, crisp and refreshing, perfect for warm weather. Maybe give it another shot? Sucks you had such high expectations tho and didn't like it.

Yup as soon as i took my first swig from my 6 pack I was like, "Idiot! Always check the reviews". I'll just drink a glass of lemonade if I want boring/refreshing/sessionable.

I bought a sixer recently but I haven't tried it yet. Since I can't comment on how good it is or isn't, I just wanted to ask the op a question.

Your toothpaste has ginger and coriander in it?

I drain poured Helios and would not dare try Swing. I totally love Victory and what they stand for, but they need to focus on what them great. Until Hop Devil, Wallop, Headwaters, and Storm King are available to everyone, they should not deviant from their awesome-ale portfolio! Did you hear that sound? That was my flak jacket buttoning up, so fire away as expected!!!!!

I haven't tried Swing, but I can understand this point. Sometimes I think that any company (in whatever field) that has some success and a good reputation will sometimes try to expand in ways that may not be so successful.

I love the Victory beers you mentioned (and also, Prima Pils), and I hope their quality stays as-is for a long, long time. Also, I hope more people get to try those wonderful brews.

That being said, I like that Victory tries some interesting new things that are fairly affordable (e.g., Swing, Red Thunder, White Monkey, Oak Horizontal, etc.). I think if they make their "standards" THE priority, they'll always be a go-to brewery for my purchases.

Victory's new production facility isn't far off from completion.

“Growing in to a new facility will have some growing pains,” said Ron Barchet, CEO and Co-Brewmaster of Victory Brewing Company. “But once we are up and running, it will allow us endless opportunities to experiment with new flavors and re-create old favorites.

Victory is currently putting out 80,000 barrels a year, the new plant will produce upwards to 200,000 barrels a year. With that being the case I'd imagine distribution will be expanding also.

While swing wasn't what I expected, I didn't find it to be awful. There are much better saisons out there, but this one has a fairly unique, intense peppery flavor that I thought would pair great with some grilled or BBQ'd anything this summer. Totally worth a try, however not my go to saison by any means.

I wouldn't say it was horrible, but it wasn't for me. The spicing levels did remind me of a witbier which isn't my favorite style. But technically there was nothing wrong with it and I am sure others will love it. Only light refreshing beer I need from Victory is Summer Love and Helios.

I was not a fan of Swing at all. I really wanted to like it, was super excited and then I was let down.

I had some and it was meh. Honestly I don't drink much Victory stuff anymore, they were like a gateway craft for me. Their mainstays are available in every Wegmans so it was easy for me to try those in the beginning. Today all I see is the same old lineup and style for style they just don't hold a candle to the many others I have been able to enjoy. When Victory did decide to brew some stuff that sounded slightly interesting (i.e. Red Thunder, White Monkey), they decided not to distribute it to our area.

Saw it at a case shop in PA on my way to a work event, and passed on it. I am definitely going to pick up a 6 when it shows up locally

I hear ya....I picked up a Red Thunder a few months ago and enjoyed it, have a White Monkey in the fridge which I might drink tonight but really the beers I enjoy the most are the ones that are only available on draft at the brewery. I live about 5 miles from Victory and when I'm there I'm usually drinking the various Braumeister Pil's variants they have on draft or their new double IPA etc..

As I posted before, their new production facility should be ready by the end of summer and from the sounds of it they will be getting more creative with their beers. Personally I'm not a huge fan of all the ridiculous 13% barrel aged stouts and what not, I love a good german lager and that is what Victory does best.

Thought it was fairly innocuous. Light, refreshing and very drinkable. I'll come back to it when it's 90+ outside. $10.49 a sixer in NC. Call me a cretin but I always tend to want to see the lower abv beers at lower prices. I know, I know...
