I saw it for $21.49 for a bomber. Seemed a little high. Am I wrong and is it worth it ? Thanks.

At a ShopRite here in PA I saw it for 20-21 so the price seems fair.

As for worth it, at the end of the day that's only something you can really decide, but to help make your decision, I'd suggest going the reviews, look at reviews only, and then sort them by Top Reviewers. Then you can see what those folks thought of the beer.

I saw it for $23 and change and laughed out loud. That's well more than the BA coffee beer from last year. Victory is in the midst of jumping the shark and I am close to turning the channel.

    Enjoy

I had been seeing White Monkey for $21 around PA, and was heavily debating purchasing it, since I love Golden Monkey so much. Then, I happened across it at a liquor store in MD for a much more reasonable $9. After getting the chance to enjoy it, I can say I wouldn't have been disappointed if I had paid the $21, but it's truly a champ in its tier if you can get it for $9.

Sure wouldn't pay $21 given it's BA score, at least without sampling it on tap first.

Its $19.50 at most beer stores here. Was excited to see them releasing it again and looking forward to picking up a bottle, but passed once I saw the price point.

I am very certain the last time this was released it was 12.99. Seems very odd that all of a sudden their barrel aged stuff is so expensive. I even remember when Oak Horizontal was released initially it was only 15.99.

I passed on Java Cask as well this year due to price point, even though I think its a very good beer. But I saw somewhere it will be released in 12oz bottles next year, so hopefully that will help get the $ per oz down.

I had it at the brewery and enjoyed it and was going to pick up a bottle from there but it was $22 so I passed. About a week later I saw it at Wegman's for $16, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

The last time it was released (perhaps three years ago) it was $8 or $9 a bottle and they just collected dust on many a shelf. I purchased more than a case in my hunting and never paid more than $10/bottle.

Now that they seem to be charging $20+ for a bottle, I will begrudgingly pass since it is one of my favorite barrel-aged beers...all-time.

Most breweries won't price their beers to undercut the general price found at their retailers so the price you will see at the brewery is pretty much what you'd find at most of the local retailers who carry the beer. Wegman's is, however, free to price a beer at a much lower price than the general market price since they can still benefit from a lower profit margin and lower price with a high rate of turn over and/or collateral sales of other beers that keep stuff moving off their shelves.

I could have swore that was the price point I remember as well, which was well worth it. $16 and up? No way.

Understood, but you'd think that the brewery would want to move product and price it just a bit more competitively. Also, some feel as if nothing beats the experience of getting it at the source and it was a missed opportunity IMO. They were doing just that for all of the other beers in their lineup and offering a pretty nice discount if you bought a case and you could mix the beers however you'd like to.

Golden Monkey's main selling points are the 9.5% abv, its easy to find, and its cheaper than Tripel's from Belgium. I found it to be way too sweet and too much banana flavor. A tad overrated IMO but I'd still like to try White Monkey anyway.

This years bottles are really good, but I absolutely wouldn't pay in the $20 range for a bottle. Thanks to some kind soul I did not have to in order to taste it.

Rum Monkey was $22 suggested retail. Guessing This monkey is the same. The brewery will sell at suggested retail to keep retailers happy. The retailers can sell at any price they want as long as its above their cost. I was at Victory a bunch of years ago and too thought it odd the bottles were more than I would pay elsewhere. If they sell for less than retailers there is the chance you piss of your retail distribution and they dont sell your beer.

What are they charging you for a mixed case?

Core beers are around $32-33 plus tax and Golden Monkey is $40-42 and Storm king is closer to $50, but used to be the same as Golden Monkey. I can get core cans when on sale for $26

    Enjoy

Fair point for sure. I don't agree with how it's handled but PA's nonsense supersedes anything I have to say so..

I don't recall exactly what we paid but there was a discount on top of the already good special at the time and it was definitely cheaper than what you find in your local distributors and the bonus of mixing up the entire case too.

    Not to worry.

It's not just PA, happens in other states as well. When we went to tour Dogfish Head down in DE. The brewery prices on their bottles in the tap room were basically the same as the nearby bottle shops.
