How do you know if you are way too deep into beer nerdom? If you can look at the super blurry map and name what they are without any other information. Think I recognized half or more immediately.

“Interestingly enough, despite low- and no-alcohol beverages increasing in popularity, American beer drinkers still prefer high-ABV brews — 39 states favor beers with 8 percent or more ABV.”

Not really surprising since the list was based upon BA reviews. We want MOAR!

    Cheers!

Yeah it seems like vinepair is not super aware that beeradvocate users do not represent the average American beer drinker

Wonder if VA's Aslin beer can was dated... oh wait, I already know: probably not... I remember when Hardywood GBS used to take this

Sometimes beeradvocate users don’t appear super aware that beeradvocate users don’t represent the average American beer drinker.

I have only had the pleasure of trying 4-5 on the list, but I'm sure the Great State of Illinois has something better to offer other than Mother Gooses BCBS......

15 or 16 for me on a quick glance. Clearly some of those I'll never have. (Looking at you, KBBS, Blessed, Marshmallow Handjee, etc.)

I've had only four of these: Tropicalia (GA), CBS (MI), Pile o' Dirt (SD), and Devil Anse (WV). It could've been five, if I'd bit the bullet and laid out $53 for a four-pack of the Utopias WWS I ran across a few weeks ago. :slight_frown:

Edit: I did grab a four pack of Wake Up WWS for a mere pittance ($36).

    Gose | 4.30%

Can that be an accurate assumption? I don't "prefer" high alcohol beers, but I tend to rate them higher than the everyday beers that I really prefer. I rate those monster beers for what they present relative to others in the high alcohol category, and I do really enjoy them relative to my everyday beers, but I don't think the correlation is there to say that I prefer them. If I preferred them I'd drink them everyday if I could get them.

Philosophically, this is an interesting point. Traditionally, preferences in social sciences are simply ordering with absolute and weak preferences included. When most people talk about what they prefer, they probably think about what they consume (or would consume) the most. Obviously there should be 'directions' to go along with that statement if you were going to survey people and have meaningful data, but in my mind if you say 'what do you prefer' it is 'what do you enjoy the most', and in that way it's like a single-serving offering. If you a or b to pick from. Which do you grab? How would you order them? rank them?

Side-rant: Rank-order voting makes more sense than any other voting system I've come across in the literature. It's the most fair and equitable at choosing a candidate that most people prefer.

Because of the requirement to have at least 100 ratings to be considered, the beer selected for SD is rated 3.75. That beer is definitely not the best beer in SD.

Agree ten thousand million billion percent. Pile O'Dirt is a decent beer, but not even close to the best in SD.
