Thinking about trying to snag some 2008 and/or 2009 BCBS. Has anyone traded for them recently- if yes, what did it take?

Should go just above $4$, nothing too crazy. Depends on numbers (you want) as not many still have cases lying around. But an 09 bomber could likely go for 4 bcbcs13 or something similar, mayber a rarer central waters type.

I bet you could get an '09 bomber for some New Glarus glassware

Should be really easy to get. 2008 has been over the hill for a year now, I would put more effort into getting the 2009 vintage.

I second this. I have not had the 08, but have heard from a bunch of people that it was shadow of its former self.

I traded some HF growlers for 2007/ 2 2008 / 2009 and some KBS. 2007 was dead, 2008 was still good 2009 was phenomenal . I wouldn't do back flips for 2008 it's borderline, the 09 definaty worth looking at.

Agree with this very much. Last week I opened one of the '09 bombers we got at the GI black friday event, and it's drinking beautifully right now, a real treat.

Trading my remaining one for a 4 of bcbcs '13? That kind of offer would really make me think about it, given how awesome (and scarce around here) bcbcs is this year. It's probably in the ballpark.

Last time I had a 2008 was about two months ago. I thought it still tasted great and hadn't faded at all. I haven't had a 2009 since summer time, but will be doing another big vertical later this week and can report back. But I would expect a 2009 in a bomber to hold up better than a 2008 in a 12oz bottle. No brainer there.

In terms of trade value, depends on availability of BCBS in your area. I was able to track down coffee this year, so wouldn't consider trading a 2009 bomber for a 4-pack of coffee. But others might. Or maybe a Backyard Rye+. Now, if you had a Proprietors available, you could likely get both a 2009 and 2008.

I wouldn't trade a prop. For 08 and 09 and then have 4 of them.

I did a 2005-2013 vertical last night. 2005-2007 were definitely showing their age and not nearly as good as two years ago (the last time I did a big vertical back to 2005). 2008 was great and the favorite amongst the group. 2010 edged out 2009, but both were outstanding. 2011 and 2012 were still hot and boozy in comparison and need more time. 2013 (14.9% version) seemed less harsh and boozy than the 2012 version and placed better than 2011 or 2012.

For those that say 2008 is past its prime, there is either some bottle variation or the bottle wasn't stored properly. Based on 2007, I would say drink 2008 sooner rather than later as it's not going to get any better. But it's tasting great right now.

Thanks a lot for reporting back regarding the vertical. I'm in the process of securing a 2009, but I will probably start looking for the other vintages (2010, 2011) when I get home from all the holiday festivities. I still haven't decided if I should be chasing down a 2008 bottle yet.

I had a 2008 BCBS at Drakenburg's Cigar Bar during Madison Craft Beer Week and it was pretty much washed out. It was like all of the flavors had combined into just a general blah flavor.

The 2008's that are maxed out makes me wonder about the Rares, could be they just need to be sipped and not sold for ridiculous amounts of cash or a kings ransom in beer.

Wasn't Rare a 2008 release, the base BCBS done in PVW barrels instead of Heaven Hill.? I've only had 2 2008 BCBS, and they were far from mind blowing, I think no matter how well they're stored there has to be some fall at some point.

No. Rare was put into barrels in 2008, released in 2010. It would be more akin to the 2009 release

OK. So Rare stayed a year in the barrel I assume, how long for regular BCBS? I'll never see a Rare though, not unless I hit the lottery or I stumble into a stray Whale which is tough here.

Rare was 2 years in the barrel, hence 2008 fill & 2010 fall release. I believe around a year for standard bcs
