$14 on a 5 year old bottle from a bar would be the deal of a lifetime. I'd expect to pay $10-$12 for a fresh BCBS bottle in a bar, and vintage anything automatically raises prices considerably.

Basically what I'm saying is that $25 is much closer to a "fair" market price on that bottle. On Ebay that would have gone for *a lot* more, so the owner's intentions don't seem to be to sell to the highest bidder.

Reasonable? Well, that's up for everyone to decide for themselves...

I guess to each his own, but I recently had an 06 and wouldn't say it was no longer any good. Sure it was changed, the bourbon was very subtle, but I wouldn't say the beer was no good, different from fresh hell yes.

Its odd that you say the bartender brought up 2 4 packs, are you sure you weren't about to get a 4 pack for $25?

I wouldn't say it was marked "way up".

At $15, its priced a lot cheaper than one would expect it to be listed for actually, being that standard bar markups are about 3x of retail for current beers. In addition, this was a "vintage" bottle, which always incur additional markups. For an 06 or 07 bottle, $25 is pretty much exactly what one would expect to pay at a bar, and in a lot of cities would be considered priced pretty cheap.

If you post the name of the place, the beers will be gone in no time. It's not priced unreasonably, it's just priced too high for you.

Too late. I saw this thread, hopped a plane, figured out what bar, and purchased all '07 bottles they had. Turns out it was only $25 per 4 pack :stuck_out_tongue:

Too many good beers at normal prices for me to pay that much.

Yeah because it would be so much harder to keep the menu updated than make the server and I go back and forth making orders, sending her to look for them, coming back to me, lather rinse repeat. I guess it would work for restaurants too. All you need to be reasonable it put "we might not have this" and list caviar for seven bucks next to burgers and chef salad and just tell people "look at the menu, it doesnt matter that we waste everyone's time".

the bar being inefficient is a problem, but you're moving the goalposts. the point i made is that the warning is accurate.

    wtf am i reading

Mikkeller is the most consistently crappy brewery I've ever known, It baffles me that people still drop huge money on their swill

What you're reading is that in your point, you seem to think an accurate warning is sufficient for creating a crappy experience. In the case of a vintage list, the customer requesting it is likely to be the one spending a bit more $$ in your place, so why not take the time to keep it up to date? Or, as I said above- just put anything you want on a menu with a warning or disclaimer saying that it might not be available and you can do whatever you like.

I guess different strokes. You see it as moving the goalposts, I see it as running your business efficiently and correctly.
