I have a small vertical of KtG 06,07,08,09 I found in a dark corner of my beer cellar and was wondering if anybody has any thoughts or experience on if they are still good.

    Thanks for reading!

I'm guessing that the 06/07 bottles are close to or past their prime but will still drink ok. The 08/09 bottles should still be good. I would drink them all by the end of the year. No need to sit on them any longer.

Dang, I wish I had enough in my cellar to be able to forget about or loose a KtG vertical...

Most likely a tad past their prime, but should still be pretty tasty.

I believe the 09 had some infection issues. Could be mistaken though.

Drank my 2012 a couple months ago and wouldn't want to age it any more.

I believe Todd Mott said 5 years max. Could be wrong there as well.

    Cheers

Thanks guys, I was thinking about trading the vertical. But it seems like there may not be that much interest.

With the trade offer you put out there, if your in-box doesn't flood within 10 minutes, the beer world has gone mad. This was one of, if not the, most highly sought-after stout of its time. I'd love to try them but, unfortunately, did not choose to get up before dawn to Rare-hunt.

If I had a Rare I'd trade it for these four bottles as many times as I had bottles of Rare. Crazy. Good luck.

Agreed, @montanajon it's probably worthwhile to do a little research on the value of your beer before you make a trade you'll regret.

All of those bottles of KtG are awesome (perhaps barring the '9).

The '08 is probably the single best regular non-barrelaged RIS that I've ever had.

The '06 is a ghost ... I didn't think ANYBODY had one left at this point.

Been trying to track down KtG for a while, curious to see what all that age has done

Had a 2010 about a year and a half ago and it was past it's prime. I never was a big fan of this beer but it was thin and one dimensional with slight oxidization. Strong barrel presence with heavy oak/wine character overpowering the malt flavors. Can't imagine that the older bottles are doing much better.

I know that 09 is supposed to be an off year but it was pretty solid when I had it back in 2011. No infection or off flavors.

Drank my 2011 and 2012 last year and they were both past their prime. Almost drain pours.

One of the few "whale" stouts I never did get a chance to try. Wish I had a bottle!

I popped an '09 a couple moths ago and there was something off. A friend of mine had one not long before (they were with me the same time I got mine) and said that one was great.
I guess some bottles had issues, and mine was one of them.
I still have a couple '11s down there, I may pop one for Xmas or New Years.

There was arguments about the '09 for quite a while after the release. I had one of the bad ones, sadly - no doubt that it was infected, but plenty of people loved it, so it sounds like the issues were hit-and-miss, bottle-to-bottle.

INdeed.I had my first bottle about 6 months after I got it - KtG day was in February, IIRC, and I opened it around Labor day - and that bottle was incredible. I had had it on tap on release day - it hadn't quite got to the point that it eventually did, I was able to get bottles AND tap - and I remember it was still a bit hot fresh, 6 months later it had mellowed nicely and was perfect. That last bnottle a couple months ago now, was just... this, no mouth feel, minimal bourbon flavor left.
