I'll be visiting New Orleans in a few weeks and I'd like to know where the best places to get local beers to bring back with me are.
It was a bit buried, but this is a pretty legit guide to NOLA and the surrounding areas. http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/beer-guide-to-visiting-new-orleans.130294/
Good info in that link. I will say that it depends on what area of NOLA you are staying in as it sprawls. I don't have any bottle shop recommendations, but I would suggest the drive out to Abita. The beer is OK but their tour is top notch, free beer for an hour, 10-15 taps you pour yourself, completely free. Their brewpub is two miles away and has pretty good burgers IMO. The Crescent City Brewhouse was a complete bust. Food was gross and beer was extremely average. I also did not enjoy Cooter Browns, as it was far out from the French Quarter and I found the crowd there odd. You could not pay me to eat their either, entire place looked unsanitary when it comes to food, especially oysters. I stayed in Metairie one time and enjoyed Max's Lager House, great selection and good place to sit and watch a game.
Stiens deli on magazine street has the most unusual bottle selection in town. I don't really know what you are looking for so its hard to say what you will find here that you can't get in Wisconsin. stiens also has great sandwiches... So there are multiple reasons to give it a try.
