A trip to SP Cellar would be recommended regardless of where you are from. Who knows, D7 might be out...

I just got back from a trip to STL My 2 cents...

-Side Project is a must. It's a nice tap room which has a ton of beer choices even if you don't order their beer. That would be silly though because their beer is excellent. Fuzzy was fantastic and Merci was really good as well. The one draw back is it can get pricey ordering the bottles of their sexier stuff (the 375 ml's were $25, 750's were $40). Also, no food, not even BYOF.

-Perennial is another one that you should probably try to visit, though it wasn't particularly close to anything. Besides the tap room, there was a decent amount of outdoor space as well. Mernawether (oak aged version of Meriwether, which just won a silver at GABF) was nearly as good as some of the Side Project stuff, and 17 was nice. The one drawback is their selection was a bit more limited. They had 8 of their beers on tap (which is okay, but I had already tried a few) and a limited cellar list. You may want to check what they have before you go and at least make sure one of their stouts is on. Also, though the address is on Michigan, you want to enter on Virginia.

-I know it might be sacrilege, but Anheuser Busch was cool to visit even if the beer isn't good. It was fun to see the sheer scale of the place and they have several tour options. The beer garden was a decent place to hang out, and luckily the beer was free because of tokens from the tour (and you can get extras if you answer the questions correctly). I wouldn't recommend it if you don't take a tour though.

-I would call 4 Hands a maybe. Their beer was...fine. Their tap list was heavy on the pale ales, they didn't have a single stout on. I don't have any complaints about the beers I tried, but I wasn't blown away either. There's a pretty good chance that your local IPA brewery is more interesting (IE Three Floyds or Half Acre for me).

-The plus with the Schlafly Bottleworks is it's close to Side Project, but wish I had tried The Civil Life or Urban Chestnut. Their beer was pretty average IMO, though their food was decent. It might be worth a stop if you're pressed for time and want to get some food and a beer after SP.

I'll probably be back for a Side Project release/Derivation, so I'll try a few more places next time!

Heading to St. Louis next week. Any hotel recommendations close to beer hot spots or what part of town one should be looking?

I realize this is probably late for you, but Sump does a nitro cold brew that is fan-freaking-tastic. I prefer going to Blueprint for a regular cup though if I'm not making it myself.

No shame in enjoying this. In fact, the AB tour is the only brewery tour I've ever been on that was very entertaining

Headed to Side Project on Tuesday if any locals want to meet up for a beer or do a trade for Philly beers.

Also any recommendations for spots to hit, I only have Tuesday after 3pm on then fly home the next morning,

    Cheers!

I really like taking out of towners to Civil life, great little spot with the coolest atmosphere of any brewery in STL, plus all the beers are fairly low abv so you can pound back a few

Can't help on hotel advice, but I'm from Iowa and will be at Side Project randomly in the evenings on Tuesday through Thursday. It's just me and my GF, looking to split some bottles to differ the cost. If you're interested, shoot me a message, cheers!

Well since I started this thread I may as well tell you what my experience has been. Since my original post I've been to St. Louis at least 3 times. The first time I made it to Schlafly's Taproom. The beer wasn't exotic, but it was decent. Better yet, the food was great. I was able to take my daughter and as a family we had an enjoyable time. I even walked out with a few bottles. On my next trip I went to the Side Project Cellar. Whoa! It was a life changing beer experience. But, they were not your regular run of the mill beers: Derivation, sours, and many others. You can also get other beers on tap at the Side Project so you don't have to drive all over St. Louis to try local beers. The 3rd time I just went to Total Wine on Manchester Road and bought a nice sample size to drink at hotel/take home. I also went to a few bars that had a pretty large amount on tap: 109 Brewhouse in O'Fallon and a Buffalo Wild Wings. That was a mistake. Good selection of beers at Total Wine but it didn't have the pizazz of getting something at a Brewery. The Buffalo Wild Wings had a very limited selection of local beers. 109 Brewhouse was decent but way to far (it's a long story how I made it out that far and why). The bottom line regarding my recommendation is make sure you go to Side Project.

Returned from my trip to St. Louis. Did not go to as many breweries as I anticipated but I did stop at Side Project, Heavy Riff, and The Civil Life. I do not need to add much to the previous Side Project comments. I also found Heavy Riff and Civil Life enjoyable in their own ways. I did not eat at those places but I found the beer to be good. I liked that Civil Life focus on low ABV beers. Only one beer I found not to my liking but overall a little bit better than Heavy Riff.

Returned from 2 days in St. Louis, only 2 musts.
Side Project is the only must visit, I stayed from 3-10 and there were plenty of things I didn't try.
Eat at Reed's the food is amazing!

Heading to St. Louis tomorrow to pick up my Abraxas package. Plan on hitting up Side Project after I get checked into my hotel. Am looking for a good craft beer spot to grab some dinner and catch the World Series. I've done a bit of research but have come up empty. Was looking at Bridge Tap House and Wine Bar but doesn't look like they have TVs. I'm staying in the downtown area.
