    Hi everyone!

I'll be flying into BWI in a couple of weeks and staying near York, PA for a week. A couple of questions:

    (1) From York, I plan on either visiting Troegs, Iron Hill, or Pizza Boy. Anyone have any recommendations for good bars or breweries that are closer to York?

    (2) I can bring any good local stuff (Funk Factory Door Kriek, CW 18, MANY other beers...) Anyone interested in working out an IP trade?

    Thanks!

It's over an hour from York, however, Tired Hands in Ardmore is brewing some pretty good stuff these days.

Usually pizza boy has a pretty good selection of tired hands on tap - probably not worth the drive.

If you head up to Pizza Boy(Al's of Hampden), you can see what they have on tap here--> http://www.alsofhampden.com/beer.php
Check out their Murren River IPA and Sunny Side up double coffee stout if you end up there. Both are fantastic. Right now they only have 5 Tired Hands brews on tap.

    Mr. Jake:

Some places that often don't get mentioned in the York area would include Golden Crust Pizza in Red Lion. He occasionally gets Hill Farmstead and usually carries a pretty nice selection of taps. No sample pours (unless you're filling a growler), but he does offer 5oz pours of anything and of course full pours. Generally fairly priced drafts.

Beer Mongers in Dallastown (2-3 miles away from Golden Crust) normally has several Tired Hands on tap. Owner is also a big fan of Mikkeller and Dogfish Head, so you could reasonably expect to see some of those as well. Half, and for higher ABV beers, 3oz pours are available. From York, these would be a 15-20 minute drive. Both owners are good guys who merit some positive comments here. Both places offer single bottle selections that may help you find some "beers to go".

May I ask, if you're staying in York, did you lose some sort of wager? Most folks go other places, unless visiting family or friends. (Full disclosure, I live in York area, and wish you a nice visit!) Of your choices; Troegs, Iron Hill, and Pizza Boy, I can't say that I'm a big fan of any of those locations, although they each do have some positive aspects. Good luck! Feel free to contact me if you need any additional info that doesn't present itself here.

I will second Golden Crusf Pizza. I drive up regularly from Baltimore for this place. Don't let the weird half pizza shop half tap room fool you. As stated above usually has some great beers on tap and the pizza is awesome. There is also a small bottle shop here for carry out. I have also been to Beer Mongers. Smaller tap list when I was there but larger bottle shop. Love both these places.

If you are visiting Baltimore, Max's Taphouse in Fells Point is a must.

Hey, York is actually a pretty good place to find craft brews! Must be the PA German influence.....
Definitely visit Holy Hound. They have a 30-tap rotation that's about as good as you're gonna do in the area.
Beermongers and Golden Crust are smaller and farther from downtown but, depending on where you're staying, would certainly be worth a visit.
If you're looking for cases, try Cape Horn Beverage or Spry Beer and Soda. Decent selection of craft brews at both.
And if you're up for a longer (30-minute) drive, try The Fridge in Lancaster. They have a great selection of bottles.

Forgot about Cape Horn Beverage. If you venture to Golden Crust or Beer Mongers definitely stop in as it's in the general area. That is, if you're looking for cases. Dave (owner) is another good beer guy. Liquid Hero guys are good folks as well. I prefer their stouts over other of their brews, but ymmv.

Brother lives in York and I'm familiar with the area.

Golden Crust definitely. Mongers has a nice variety, but often overpriced. BrewTaGo is hit and miss.

Tröegs is a definite as well. Their beers are great and the food is outstanding.

I've never been to Al's but have had their crowlers. Yes to there as well.

Really thankful for the awesome recommendations! I'll be staying a little SE of Grantley (visiting for a work trip), so Golden Crust/Beer Mongers/Holy Hound look like great close places! Mid-week I'll be driving to Hagerstown, so I'll try to take a detour to Pizza Boy and/or Troegs on the way. Visiting Tired Hands would be awesome, but a little too far out of the way.

If I have room in my bag to bring a few local beers, I'll write another post when heading to one of those bars in town assuming they're cool with me sharing a bottle or two. Thanks again for the advice!

Hagerstown would def put you out of the way for those places, not on the way lol

Not sure how open any of these places are to outside bottles. One time a buddy brought a super fresh Pliny to holy hound and asked if we could open it since it was slow (maybe 10 people including us) and they let us, and I got a boss pour (first time I had it) and everyone at the bar got a small sample, but idk if they allow it normally

If you do go to any of those places (HH or beer mongers specifically) let me know ahead of time if you can and I'll try to make it out!

If you need a nice meal w/ some beers, check out The First Post off of Market St. Pretty happenin' place. Also Wyndridge Farm is in Dallastown if you want to spend a few bucks more and like ciders.

Where are you going to be in Hagerstown @jakethesnake9z9z? Nothing super exciting up there but I could give you a few recommendations.
