I'm visiting Athens, GA on April 6th. I've seen people suggest going to Five Points Bottle Shop for a good beer selection. Do they have a good selection of Terrapin beers? Are there any special release Terrapin beers out right now? I've never had any of their beer but was told it was very good. Any suggestions? We're staying near the downtown area. Are there any bars/restaurants we shouldn't miss out on? Thanks in advance.

For bars, hit up Trapeze downtown.

I was in Athens last week and highly recommend Trapeze, the food was great and the service was even better. We hit up 5pts bottle shop as well and picked up several things that don't make it to Savannah (Sixpoint & Jailhouse). They still had Wake-n-Bake and Hopzilla, along with Terrapin's regular line up. Athens is a great college town, enjoy.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely hit up Trapeze. I was hoping to find Wake-n-Bake but figured it was too late. I'm glad to hear that it was still available as of last week. Are there any other Terrapin beers that are a must try?

You should also definitely stop by Catch22 http://catch22athens.com/ while you're in town for fantastic food and brews. Just down the road from 5points westside store (they have two locations and you will absolutely find gems at both).

If it's nice outside I definitely recommend Cali N Titos (latin/cuban spot...cash/check only & can byob with a wristband fee $2 I believe). Downtown there are some good spots (Last Resort, Five Bar,Depalmas, East-West Bistro, Porterhouse) just be prepared to shell out some money for the nicer ones.

Not much noteworthy from Terrapin right now. You should be able to snag some good Westbrook and CCB Jai Alai and Hopped on the High Seas if you're into that sort of thing.

Agreed, Trapeze and Catch 22 for drinking, Five Points for shopping. Aromas is a great place too to eat and grab a few rare drafts, it's right across from the Five Points in 'downtown'.

Terrapin has a few beers out right now, but unless you love rye and/or hops, you won't find much of anything appealing.

I'll second the Aromas recommendation. It's about a mile from my house and, at least in terms of beer, vastly superior to Trappeze. You're unfortunately missing a barrel-aged event at Aromas by a week, but they almost always have a few treats on.

Trapeze is great, and Five Points on Lumpkin is the place to go when looking for stuff to take home. Five Points Growlers (directly next to the bottle shop) usually has some good stuff on draft to go. The one thing I will caution with Five Points is to check out bottle dates, especially on IPAS. I've been burned a few times with very old (we're talking year old) bottles. Was there last week and they had an okay selection of Westbrook, including a bunch of Citrus Ninja Exchange, which is too bad considering it was so delicious when it was bottled in October.

Drive into Atlanta and go to Brickstore Pub. It's only an hour out. DO IT. NO QUESTIONS.

WnB should not be too hard to find, still. Check out the taplists at the pubs/growler stations and order anything from Burnt Hickory Brewing. You can thank me later...

Why not tour Terrapin while you are there? Can't hurt.
