I'm planning on going to Austin for the 9th 10th and maybe 11th (fri-sun). What are the best breweries, shops, and bars to hit while I'm there?

Breweries would be Austin Beerworks and Hops & Grain. Shops and Bars will I refer to someone else as I don't live there any more.

Whip In for food and just the sheer mind boggling that Indian Mexican fusion food will give you. Pinthouse Pizza is worth the stop. Great salads and pizza and awesome flights, esp the 44 guest taps, including Heavy Machinery.

There's a list somebody around here put together that's really amazing; I don't know where it is. Hopefully somebody will post it. The opinions given so far are great; I'll add mine:

    Brewery: Jester King (Saturday)
    Bar: Draught House
    Shops: Iiiii dunno.

Breweries: Jester King, Hops & Grain and Austin Beerworks
Bars: Draught House, Bangers (101 taps and awesome food), Whip In, Flying Saucer, Pinthouse Pizza
Shops: Whole Foods Downtown, East 1st Grocery, Sunrise Mini Mart, Whip In, Spec's

Kmello69 has an awesome list of all things Austin beer related. Where you're staying kind of depends unless you're willing to travel.

Here's my spreadsheet, although its a bit off now because some of the breweries have changed their hours/tour times. I'll update when I can, but check times before heading to any of the breweries listed. The stuff that's highlighted are the ones I like best, but thats purely subjective.

    Here's what I wouldn't miss:

    Brewery tours/taprooms:
-Friday night-Austin Beerworks (keep an eye on their Facebook/Twitter for tickets... they go quick)
    -Saturday afternoon
    -(512) Brewing (12PM & 12:30PM tours. No taproom.) http://www.eventbrite.com/org/980013407?s=12396262
    -Jester King Brewing (1PM, 3PM, 5PM tours... Taproom open from 12PM-6PM) http://jesterkingbrewery.com/events/
    -Sunday afternoon
-Hops & Grain Brewing (12PM-6PM Taproom hours)
... unfortunately Live Oak Brewing (which I'd normally include) isn't doing tours in August.

    Bars:
-Draught House (definitely go here one night)
    -Banger's
-Craft Pride (they also have a bottleshop)
    -Whip In (also a brewpub)

    Shops:
-Central Market Westgate (say hi to Chuk)
-East 1st Grocery (if you go on Friday, say hi to Sam)
-Whip In (also a brewpub. Say hi to Anastasia)

Well welcome to Texas. I was born and raised in Boston myself, so know what that transition is like. I'm in the Austin area, but let me know if there's anything I can help you with.

I'm coming down from OKC the same weekend lol. Plan on hitting Jester King, Austin Beerworks, Bangers and Pizza Pinthouse, which are all new to me. Too bad Live Oak isn't doing tours because there is some fun to be had there. And I'm sure all the Austinites are over this, but I still wholeheartedly recommend grabbing a Live Oak Hefe somewhere because the trip wouldn't be right without it.

    GET THE HEF. GEEEEET ITTTTTT.

Also, if you're ever down here in the winter... they make a fantastic weizenbock and barleywine in Primus and Old Treehugger, respectively.

I'm at Austin beerworks and they have barrel aged Sputnik as a secret tap... Thanks for the suggestions! This weekend will be great
