I will be at a wedding on a Friday with a window between wedding (3) and reception (7) to check out Barrier. I know the hours and can see what's on tap on twitter/instagram/beermenus. I've been assured by the couple that the ceremony is short, so I'd guess we'd be there about 4, possibly a few minutes before.

My main question was what the scene is like on a Friday afternoon in terms of crowds? Is there any particular beer that makes it worse (Money, Daddy Warbucks, something else). I've had their beers before (which is why I want to go), but don't need to drag myself into a mad scene all dressed up for a wedding! Have a few folks at the wedding that I'd likely drag along and don't want to do that without getting a general sense on the scene.

    Appreciate any input.

It's pretty tame, my guess is 10-15 people at 4 on a Friday, everyone gets a seat. It starts to get busy around 8, but even then it's not a mad house.

While you may get Money, it's safe to say they will not have DW. Even if they do have Money, it's not the type of scene where people are going crazy.

Whenever I've been to Barrier it's been chill.

Go for it. Good crowd and Fridays they have a cask. I actually prefer other ipas over money and DW. Dunegrass is the best DIPA in my opinion. The new ipas Suburbs, Atypical and Neck Rattoo are great. But at Barrier they have much more than just ipas.

Thanks all, was just checking to see if the ones with the most "commercial recognition" drew crowds. I fully anticipate being impressed by the other beers!

Do they do tasters in addition to pints and growlers?

You can do flights of anything they have on typically. I was there a week ago and they had Rock & Roll on and that was the only one you couldn't get in a flight. They do growlers of most everything if you want to take brew back to the reception. They have bottles of their barleywine and farmhouse Brett brew now too. I got a growler of their new Suburb IPA and it was real nice. Its a super relaxed scene so just enjoy yourself!

Yeah I really liked Suburbs. Also around recently was Smack Dab an IPL, NY TAP winning and Red Button and Imperial Red Ale that's a bit rare. Really nice and piney.

Great brewery to visit if you are looking for a chill scene and delicious brews. You definitely won't be dealing with the "mad house" scene especially earlier in the day. Plenty of seating and a relatively open space.

Thanks all. Great information ... one last (I think) question. Do they fill any growler or do I need to use Barrier ones?

Hmm - thinking about stopping by early tomorrow to fill some growlers - updated list on beermenus - the Kolsch & Cali Common are 2 of my favorite non-IPAs from them. Also Neck Tattoo is a newish Centennial IPA only brewed for one bar. Memorial day traffic might be terrible though.

How far away do you live? Train is definitely best bet on a weekend like this.

I'll be heading up tomorrow after work. Drive is only 10 mins for me but since I plan on having more than a few I'll take the 5 min train ride.

I'm in Western Queens - I think I can get there early tomorrow though for some fill ups for the weekend. Wish they were just alittle bit closer.

Yup. No plans to change that as of now.

New batch of Money is off the charts. Their new grapefruit IPA is tasty too. Plus, damn gold fish tacos.

I wish they would bring Raspberry Cycle back.

While it's bittersweet I finished my Morticia keg today, I'm so pumped to pick up a keg of Money tomorrow.

I prefer Suburbs and Atypical over Money - hope they push those out more.
