Yep its a quick 2 min walk from the East Rockaway train station. The train runs right next to the brewery going south from there.

Be careful walking across Atlantic Ave, not the easiest of roads to cross.

I love Barrier but I'm really struggling with their pricing, $6 for a 16.9oz bottle of IPA? If it were in 16oz cans that would be $23 per 4 pack. Money is good, but when Pipeworks Ninja vs Unicorn tastes very similar and is now easy to find I don't know why anyone would pay the premium.

If OH can pump out world class beers for $16-$20 per 4 pack in the NYC area, don't see why Barrier can't.

Stop calling these things releases  ! Beer geeks foam at the mouth like rabid dogs when they hear the word "release". How about this:

Barrier selling some bottles of beer this weekend.

Uh-oh there goes the neighborhood. Guess i wont be stopping by this weekend - i avoid lines of beer geeks at all costs. Hopefully with the new bottle line they can keep a regular supply going so we don't have to have bottle only people there taking up space. Wonder if they will start accepting credit cards now.

Two of their beers (I'm assuming are retired) that really don't get the love they fully deserve are the BBHCFM and Saazquatch. The BBHCFM was probably the hoppiest black ale I've ever drank (I was immediately pissed i split my only bomber with someone, haha) and the Saazquatch, although a little out of my usual comfort zone, was a borderline wow for me.

Money is obviously great (forget the bottle, can that shit!) but I recently had Atypical and that was really fucking good too. Lights Out is as solid as it gets too.

BBHCFM is a very limited release, maybe once a year. Sasquatch might not be around this year, haven't heard anything about it. There are alot of bottle worthy beers from Barrier. I'd love to be able to buy bottles of Simple, Rembrandt, Icculus, Oblong, etc.

Haven't seen BBHCFM in probably close to three years now. Maybe I missed it two years ago when I was living in RI but the last bottle I remember have was fall 2012 when I split it with a friend. That was one damn good beer.

As for Saazsquatch, I've asked the past few times and there's still no word on it, so maybe we won't be seeing it this year.

And yes, plenty of bottle worthy beers from Barrier!

I definitely see where you are coming from. The price has definitely deterred me a little bit, but then I think about the gas I'm saving vs driving to OH and the time I'm saving sitting in traffic and in line at OH vs just walking into Barrier, and it doesn't seem to bad. To spend 25 mins back and forth to barrier to pick up beers compared to 1 1/2 hours each way plus standing in line at OH, I'm more inclined to spend my time heading to Barrier on the one day I have off a week.

I don't know for sure (and don't quote me on this), but maybe the initial costs are so high are because:
    • Glass is more expensive?
    • Their overhead for the building is more expensive then Other Half? Their space is 3 times (or more) than that of OH, and taxes in Nassau are out the ass. Maybe it has something to do with it?
    • Lastly, the price of installing the new bottling line. Maybe prices will go down with time as they start covering the initial costs of the bottling line?
Anyone care to chime in to the questions above?

BBHCFM was around a few months ago. Beer table even had it - their prices were outrageous as usual. But it was in a few other bars. too.

Bottle prices might be high b/c of bottle line - SingleCut is also on the high side. But maybe the prices are sustainable for them - maybe other breweries are selling cans at a lower profit or little profit to encourage the hype train. I don't know.
I'm sure the less trendy styles will be priced lower.

I got there around 1230. Heard they had a line at opening but was fine when I got there. Seemed to be plenty left!

    Money is tasting fantastic.

They do have other beer to go in growlers and other places will be getting bottles soon. Its a cool place to hang out with or without a bottle release.

Agree 100%, just very limited time this weekend and think would be cool to get a bottle or two. If not can just enjoy a beer or two.

Line of about 15 or 20 people 20 minutes before opening. They had everyone line up by the side and go in to the brewery to buy bottles. Then you could go into the taproom and hang as per usual. After the initial rush people were just trickling in for bottles and I didn't see any other lines after that. I opened a money bottle and it is a VERY good batch of money.

I know this isn't about an IPA or imperial something but I think the current version of Rotationer single hop pilsner is exceptional. Feels similar to SN Summerfest but I think different hops. Had a few pints at Astoria Bier and Cheese. Highly recommend.
