The Boneyard taproom location still has a fence around it, although action within the building is minimal... not sure EXACTLY what needs to be done, or what their final plans will be. To be honest, I haven't seen any action there and I drive by every day on my way to the office...

@distantmantra I'll be around that weekend (probably at AA as well) with some family. Would love to meet up! (Getting a case of fresh Trillium on Monday)

You on Untappd? Just follow where SeattleBeerPenguin goes that weekend and you'll be good.

I wanted to ask for hotel recommendations. I don't need anything super fancy but want something more in the center of the action. I was going to mention that there's unfortunately no Uber and I don't plan on driving however I just read that Uber just got approved! Not sure if there's any drivers but hoping it will be 100% when I'm there in November. So, any standout hotels in Bend for a beer trip?

I added you both because my feed on Untappd is incredibly boring and I'm kind of creepy like that. Feel free to disregard.

    Thanks man!

I've been following the Seattle Beer Zoo for quite a while.

I can't find either 'Seattle Beer Zoo' or 'Bellingham Beer Zoo'. What am I missing?

Those are the loose group names for various users: there's also SeattleBeerRhino and SeattleBeerGiraffe, BellinghamBeerQuokka, etc. You'll probably need to stalk Penguin and Otter's friend lists to find the other specific UT user names.

What's your UT handle? Mine's sharpski there too, I can't remember if we're already friends.

Yeah, I jacked @distantmantra 's Zoo idea when I joined. My friends Chris and Dan are Quokka and Wolf, respectively. There's a few others, but not as active.

Yeah, mine is the same as here also. Man, that Bellingham zoo is quite exotic.

I would go with vrbo or a comparable rental site. When my wife and I visited Bend last Nov we found a 2 br house that was very nice, cheaper than a hotel, and literally a block from Boneyard. We did the Bend Ale trail and were able to walk to 10 of the 15 breweries. Had a blast. Can't wait to go back to Bend.

We always rent a house via AirBnB. Lots of good options near Galveston, Bond St. and Mirror Pond .

Rather than a separate thread, I think here is a good place to talk about Central Oregon Beer Week 2017. SMaSH Fest returns on 5/27 with 24 beers from Central Oregon and beyond, and a host of other events found at centraloregonbeerweek.com. If you're visiting the Bend area May 19-28, I highly suggest you check out the events going on. This year's COBW Beer is an IPA made by last year's People's Choice winner at 2016 SMaSH Fest, Bend Brewing Co., and available across town and at BBC.

Crooked Jay Brewing, a 2 bbl garage operation in Bend, made its draft debut this weekend at the MofC. I missed out on it; reports were that the IPA was good but not earth-shattering. Doesn't look like they do any "dock sales," but their website shows 22ozs, so maybe those are forthcoming. Will keep an eye out.

Forgot to mention that Ale Apothecary is releasing a new beer during COBW. From Paul:

We called this beer ¡Vamonós! (as in ‘Let’s Go’) as our rallying (or empathetic) cry that we’ve had enough of this president and would like to get this ugly political period behind us. The fact that this beer is quite a bit funkier and tarter than most of our beers seems to fit with this concept.

It is distinctly different from our other beers; it was first soured by lactobacillus and aged in a barrel for a few months prior to the saccharomyces fermentation. After this fermentation, we aged the beer in another barrel for over a year prior to packaging, using agave nectar as the sugar source for the yeast to naturally carbonate each bottle. This beer was never boiled and never had any hops added to it! It is a very old-world example of how beers were made prior to our modern methods. The low ph environment of the initial lactobacillus activity ‘preserved’ the beer and the alcoholic fermentation by yeast ensured that preservation.

    ¡Vamonós!
A sour beer for sour times.
    6.3% ABV
    $25 per bottle
    $5 per 4oz pour
    $10 per 8oz pour

This Saturday should be a fun time at the new Ale Apothecary tasting room. New bottles and great beer!
