What's up with most local breweries not keeping a live tap list on their sites?

(shrug) If I’m going to a brewery, it’s because I like their regular lineup and will check out their one-offs when I get there. Online taplists are much more important to me for beer bars, growler fill stations, etc. because nothing’s a given.

The cost/benefit ratio is so favorable I think everyone should have an online taplist, but I’m more forgiving of breweries because I have a better idea what to expect.

Personally, I don't care. If I'm going to that brewery, I'm going. There'll be something on I want when I get there. FWIW, I've never checked an online list for store or bar either. Same rationale: if they're good enough for me to want to go there, they're good enough. If not, why would I even think about going in the first place?

I'm that my original premise was pretty flawed. I posted it out of frustration because I had the urge to walk over to Sunriver and 10 Barrel, but neither had info. Since then I've done a more thorough search and it looks like the majority actually do post tap lists. My bad!

Plus, there's always the UT work-around.

10 Barrel’s is on their site but getting to it isn’t obvious. If you skip Sunriver because you couldn’t see what they had ahead of time, you did it wrong IMO.

I feel you on wanting online info in advance, especially when trying to decide between places already visited, but I’d encourage you to take some leaps of faith while traveling and embrace the not knowing.

I'll definitely go to Sunriver sooner or later, don't worry.

Untappd is the easiest way to get an idea of what's available somewhere if they don't put their taplist online.

Another option would be to just call and ask them, though I am noticing an increasing number places don't actually pickup the phone.

Maybe I’m off base, but imagine that phone call being frustrating for both parties, assuming the place being called has more than, say, four taps. And they’re anything other than dead quiet.

“...you said it’s named Rippin’? And what style is that? What was the ABV for Vicious Mosquito again? Could you repeat the type of barrels you used for BA Motorhead?”

Which is why you post online taplists instead of making it difficult for people to find out what's on. Saves everybody time.

With that said, people who don't have online taplists expect people calling to ask and are usually very patient in my experience.

To change the subject just a bit, I can't describe how happy I am to have access to pFriem beers now. Drinking the strong golden at the moment and it's fantastic. Their pils is second only to Bierstadt's among American takes on the German style that I've tried.

Holy Mountain is especially good at keeping their tap list and bottles to go list up to date. I monitor it often. Right now they have MS Coconut bottles for in house consumption. Win.

Meet you there at 3 to split one? (Half-kidding, I assume it sold out last night and the tap list will be updated accordingly.)

To bring this back to Bend, which I spent the past weekend in and about, I have to say that I was very impressed with Boneyard's new location. It opened up after Memorial Day so I didn't get a chance to see it this summer, and it surpassed my expectations based on this thread. My entire party found something to enjoy on the food menu, and we even considered returning to eat a second time. Not to mention, the batch of Notorious available was amazing, service was great, and the combination of outdoor heating, the aforementioned Notorious, and a barrel-aged barleywine kept me quite comfortable.

Went to Boneyard last night more or less on the strength of this recommendation and was really happy with the quality of both the beer and food.

Tried the pils (solid, if not remarkable), chocolate cherry stout (very good), and barleywine (excellent) and paired 'em with the Filipino burrito special, which was delicious.

Not super psyched about the seating arrangement (had to awkwardly squeeze in between two larger parties at a communal table because all the smaller tables and bar seats were taken), but that's a small complaint. Really nice place! They just need to work on their branding.

Is McMenamins worth hitting up for beer? It's "recommended" in the first post but it's also pretty hard to find info about their overall quality and which beers they're known for, etc.
