Great suggestions. I think Legal is generally a fairly terrible value these days overall, but their chowder is still very good. If you want a full seafood dinner I'd go to one of the other places mentioned, but if you just want a very representative bowl of NE style chowder Legal is a great choice. The Harborside location is scenic taboot - go check out the (free!) outdoor seal tank at the Aquarium next door.

Oh, and be warned that lines at Neptune Oyster can be fairly ridiculous.

    That's Long Wharf, not Harborside.

Agreed about all of the above. For the Legal, was thinking of the one down in the Seaport near Jerry Remy's / Del Friscos rather than the one next to the Aquarium. On warm days one of the glass walls opens up and gives the place an open air feel.

Definitely hit Night Shift. I was in Boston about this time last year and spent a few hours over there on my own (wife was in a conference). Had a lot of fun and that was before they opened the new (or not so new now, I guess) taproom.

Yes. It is. Just like all you people from the burbs drive into town with an extended cab pickup or whatever and then complain that it's hard to park.

Sam Adams is a more desirable stop since they started their growler program. They've been making some cool brewery only stuff and the growlers tend to be $10. And its a 3 minute walk from a T stop so the lack of parking is overstated(and why are you driving after drinking anyway). Still, definitely go to CBC and Trillium before thinking about visiting Sam Adams.

Load up at Trillium, spend as much meal time as you can at Row 34!

I'll be flying in this afternoon as a first timer to Boston. Is there a relatively up to date "tap finder" site that anyone can recommend?

Oof, I'm not in the city a lot but can tell you good luck finding up to date taps at a majority of Boston bars. And deceptively (intentional or not) the ones that do show tap lists on their site are often updated like once a week/month.

Your best bet may be to surf untappd for bars around Boston to look at check-ins...

The only place in Boston I know that regularly uses BeerMenus is The Tip Tap Room. I wish more places did. The following places do a reasonably good job with keeping their website tap list up to date (not a complete list):

    • Redbones
    • Deep Ellum
    • Cambridge Brewing Company
    • Christopher's
    • Cambridge Common
    • Row 34
    • Five Horses
    • Stoddard's
And, of course, most of the local breweries are good about keeping their list up to date via web or social media.

If you are looking for something specific or want to get an idea of what is pouring someplace, Untappd is a good resource.
