The wife and I are coming up for the marathon from Central PA and staying near the South End. What are some decent bars/bottle shops to stop at? Any breweries nearby worth checking out? Can you get any bottles from the Vermont brewers in the Boston area? Thanks.
Not trying to be a jerk, but if you search Boston above in the search box, you will find plenty of answers to this question. But, in short, go to Stoddard's/Tip Tap/Lord Hobo for bars and Trillium/Night Shift/Idle Hands for breweries. Assuming you're looking for Alchemist, Hill Farmstead and Lawson's from VT, none of them distribute to Mass. or Boston area. Sorry. Long Trail does, though, and they make Limbo, which I think is a solid beer. Enjoy Boston.
The Trillium Brewery in the South End is worth a stop. Great beers on par with what you'd find in VT.
Trillium is not in the South End. It's in the Fort Point area of South Boston, but you should still go there. Urban Grape is probably the best bottle shop in the South End.
Picco has a surprisingly good rotating tap list. Otherwise don't be worried about getting around, Boston is pretty easy to maneuver. I would recommend Trillium as well. I have had them a few times and have always been impressed.
In the South End, best bets for food and draft are Salty Pig, Coda, Picco, and Estelle's. Five Horses tavern also had a solid list the one time I went there. I second Urban Grape for bottles.
