I am planning a Chicago trip for my bachelor party next month, and I am a little concerned about getting into some of the more popular breweries with 13 of us. Places like 3 Floyds and Revolution won't work with us in terms of reservations, so is there a better strategy besides just getting there before they open and hoping to get a table? Right now, we're planning to hit up 3 Floyds, Half Acre, Revolution and 18th St. Any advice would help.

There are some good taverns/bars that have really good beer selections that are not necessarily breweries. My favorite two are Bad Apple which is less than a block from 1/2 Acre and Fountainhead which is not far from those two. They both can accommodate the number in your party. Fountainhead has a rooftop deck if you get some nice weather. Neither of these are really loud places so you might want to make them one of your first stops if you are going out all night!

Based on my experience in planning bar/brewery crawls for bachelor parties over the past few years, most don't have the facilities for large groups to just show up. Moreover, most (if not all) all of the breweries I've contacted either don't take reservations at all or won't for a large group (we had even fewer people than you guys will). Somehow, we were able to finagle something with Haymarket, but it seemed semi-unofficial (since I didn't make that particular arrangement, I can't speak to real specifics). The same problems arose with the bars, most of which (at least the ones we spoke to ahead of time) seemed to hate the idea of a large group showing up, unannounced or otherwise.

We still did the bar crawl thing, we just had to deal with the fact that we might get some dirty looks from bouncers/bartenders and that we would likely have trouble finding tables able to accommodate our group's size. Just kinda goes with the territory, I guess. (For the record, though, during one of our crawls, we ended up at Revolution and were more than able to find plenty of room in their upstairs area, despite the fact that downstairs was mostly packed and it was a Saturday night in the summer. So there's always hope.)
