Greetings gentle denizens of the Mountain regional forum. The wife and I plan to stay near Cody for a few days during an upcoming visit to Yellowstone. While here, would love to find some place in town with a decent taplist. Libations looks like it can take care of my needs as far as take out is concerned, but I'm not finding a whole lot of interest via untapped or BA places (the best I could find on BA places was the Silver Dollar bar, but there's only a single review; it's fairly old; and the place doesn't have a website or much of a FB presence). I ran a forum search, but the last thread covering places of interest in Cody was roughly 5 years old (and so presumably not very current). Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I’ve been there four times... There’s a small wine/beer store that has a pretty standard selection of “craft beer” downtown. There’s a brewery there (or was)... never felt the need to stop. When you get to Cody I think you’ll understand why there isn’t much for craft beer. Jackson on the other hand is great.
Zonker from Snake River is easily a top 5 beer for me from anywhere and you should have zero issues locating it
I have not been to Cody in 2 decades but if I were to revisit, I'd go to Pat O'Hara, Millstone and WYoWest. Fresh beers that may please.
Have not seen it anywhere on tap, but will try to see if I can find cans or bottles. Thanks for the tip.
Stayed in Cody a couple of years ago and while I didn't run across anything that specialized in craft beer, all the restaurants and bars we visited had a good selection of regional craft beers. Visit the Irma Hotel and check at the bar and its history. Beer selection was good and the food was too. Spend a day at the Buffalo Bill Museum of the West if you have time. If you're there when the Cody Night Rodeo is in session, check that out too. Have a Coors and enjoy the show!
Thanks! The BB museum was amazing. It took us two days to take it all in. The wife and I are not gun enthusiasts, but even we were completely blown away by their collection of firearms. We did go to the Irma of course, to soak up the historical vibe of the place. Beer selection waa pretty mediocre I thought. SNPA was the most exciting thing I saw in bottle/cans, and then they had 3 craft options on tap. The Black Tooth IPA I ordered was fine, but was the same IPA available back at our lodge. We enjoyed our visit, but not because of the beer selection (was unable to pull the trigger on an order of rocky mountain oysters, even though we heard they were Buffalo Bill's favorite "sack lunch.").
Most places say they are making rocky mountain oysters but they are really sweet breads. You'd have likely been ok. Both are fantastic though.
