Hello all, I'm heading to Dallas in a few weeks for work and as part of my ritual when heading out of state for work I will be doing some beer shopping for stuff I cant get in Chicago. I will be downtown with no car and I was wondering w\if there are any great stores I could walk to/cheap cab ride people would recommend. Really looking for Prairie and JK beers. Thanks in Advance
If you are going to be downtown, get cab ride over to Deep Ellum Brewery. Their IPA is great! Also, you can find it in sixers in cans in many stores. If you are near a Whole Foods store, they are good about stocking, fresh, local brews. You won't be able to get up there (plus they are only open Saturday I think), but Franconia Brewery up in McKinney makes some nice beers, try their Kolsch, it's very good.
Franconia would be nowhere near the top of my list of DFW breweries. There are too many other good ones. If you are downtown DFW, at least you will have access to the DART to get you around. I am not Dallas expert, so I will leave that to those people about which ones you can get to. But, for breweries, the top ones (to me) at least would be Community, Lakewood, and might as well do Deep Ellum because it is right there.
I'm partial to Community and lakewood myself- community has a better scene- in terms of their Saturday tours, and their beers are generally fantastic across the board.
If you want to do tours do Peticolas then Community, they are a mile apart. There are not any great beer stores near you, if you can get up 75 to Walnut Hill Total Wine and Specs are your best bets. If you can find a friend willing to drive you around go check out Lonestar Beverages in Carrollton.
I've been. I think they're about the same quality as Community, but have a slightly different (perhaps more approachable) variety of beer in their taproom, especially if you don't like Community's Belgians. Worth a stop if you're in the area, but not really something I'd go out of my way for.
Also while in Downtown you are not too far from Craft and Growler. Large tap list (with good growler prices), and bottles to go.
