Hey Everyone, Going to be visiting Dallas(driving). I live in OK and our in state beer selection is terrible! Any suggestions on some bottle shops to stock up? We are staying downtown and usually make a stop in the Plano area on the way home. Also, will be my wife's birthday...any good restaurant recommendations? Thanks!
Braindead brewing for an awesome lunch burger (coma burger) in deep ellum and good beer selection. S&K Liquors at spring creek and 75 for bottles on your way home.
Try Braindead Brewing in Deep Ellum, Meddlesome Moth, Rodeo Goat, or LUCK. As for bottles, you should try Total Wine, Specs (Coit & 15th), Kegs and Barrels, and S&K. If you're going through Plano and take I-35 to get back to OK, you should take DNT north to 121, hop off at Josey and stop at Taps and Caps. Also, OK's beer selection isn't terrible. It's much improved within the past year. The addition of Evil Twin, Stillwater, Omnipollo, etc have done wonders for OK's selection. Plus, I think Oklahoma has DFW firmly beat when it comes to local Pale Ales (Elk Valley and Arrowhead).
Which area of Oklahoma are you coming to us from? There's multiple plans of attack, I think @Cowboys9 summed it up pretty well though.
For beer bars my favorite is Strangeways in East Dallas, it's a bit of a dive but super chill and with a great selection of drafts and a good stash of special/rare bottles. Bartenders tend to be a bit gruff but the mean well. Meddlesome Moth is the complete opposite as far as atmosphere (it's very nice) and it takes the cake on selection, it's blissful. Great taps, great bottles, good food too. For breweries that you can visit I like Four Corners, Community, Lakewood, and of course Braindead. For bottles, I can echo the sentiment on Hall's Grocery, love that place. In central Dallas the trifecta of Specs, Total Wine, and Park Lane Whole Foods is pretty hard to beat. Those are all of highway 75 (central expressway) and within a couple miles of each other. Lastly we'd love to have you over at my place in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas. We're a small 5bbl brewpub that has good beer and really outstanding food (IMHO). Have fun! Aaron Garcia
I wanted to bump this thread because I'm going to Dallas Tuesday for a conference and I have an afternoon to kill. Are there any sort of beer cafes around where people hang out with a laptop similar to a coffeeshop? I wanted to check out the meddlesome moth but it seems like more of a restaurant from their website.
I occasionally see people in Taps and Caps with their laptops when I am by during the day. It has a relaxed / non bar feel to the place. 50 taps so you can usually find something good to drink.
I never have (since I don't live in Dallas), but I could see even LUCK being a decent place for that if during the day. I have stopped by there many times during the day and it never seems to have crowds that it would be an issue. But, it is not a coffee shop and would sorta feel more like a restaurant. I also suggest it due to their taplist being all local.
Maybe the Alcove? It's a coffee shop/ wine bar/ beer bar. Not a huge tap list (12 taps I think?) but they'll occasionally have something very good on tap. Edit: List - https://twitter.com/TheAlcoveDallas Looks like they've got Rumpkin bottles
