I'll be going to Detroit for the first time ever this weekend for a concert. Any bars or recommendations while out there? I don't think Founders tap room is open yet? Thanks!
I was just at the Fillmore last Saturday night. Be prepared to wait in a long lione to get in, unless you have some form of VIP access. After the show, went to brassraildetroit.com across the street, and they had BCBS on tap, though I didn't get the year, I assume it was 16. Also had Backwoods Bastard. Might still be available, depending on when you are visiting. I wouldn't plan your trip around this place, as I don't think it is really known for being a craft beer place - I was pretty shocked to see they had BCBS - the pizza after the show was ok. Also right around the corner is rustedcrowspirits.com. They have an ok selection of craft beer on tap and in bottle - I went there before the show. This is a really cool space as well (the Brass Rail is not lol).
Head a few blocks north to midtown. Hop Cat and Jolly Pumpkin are right there. There are more hipster joints popping up serving craft in that hood than I can keep up with as well. For a change of pace, Great Lakes Roaster is a great 3rd Wave Coffee joint with a decent tap list of craft. It is only 1 mile north on Woodward from the Fillmore, almost to Hopcat and Jolly Pumpkin and an easy walk or Q-Line ride up Woodward
If u like mead. Head over to Schramms in Ferndale. They r one of the best (if not the best) in the country.
If you head south a few block from the Fillmore on Woodward there is the Grand Trunk. Good selection of Michigan craft. http://www.grandtrunk.pub If craft beer is not a concern and you are looking for a truly unique bar that is quintessential Detroit check out Cafe D'Mongo. Also a few blocks south just off Woodward.
Try 8 Degrees Plato down the street. On Cass Ave. Excellent tap list most of the time. Plus its a bottle shop with a lot of limited to regular offerings. Cheers and enjoy our city
