Good morning all. I am visiting Dogfish this weekend for the first time. It has been on the bucket list for years, so I am excited. Are there any other breweries in the area I should try to knock out the same day? Maybe a bottle shop to pick up some local brews?

    Thanks for any information.

I would hit up the old Dogfish brewpub in Rehoboth while you're there. They offer some of their employee-made brews on tap there which is kind of cool (you'll hear more about that on the tour of the main brewhouse). Also offer some aged bottled beers like older WWS and 120min stuff. It's worth checking out if you like DFH, plus Rehoboth is a cool place.

As the previous poster noted, you should check out the Dogfish Brewpub afterwards as they do offer some exclusive beers there which are not served at the brewery. On the way to the Brewpub there are two great stores (that is if you still have money left over from buying bottles at the brewery) which are really good since they carry some bottles that are not found at the brewery or the brewpub. The name of the liquor stores are Outlet Liquors & Atlantic Liquors both on the main road. Have fun!

I've never had WWS so that sounds like a plan. Thanks!

I see you are North Carolina. Are you driving via the bridge/tunnel and then up the Delmarva peninsula? If so, Evolution is in Salisbury MD. Good beer and food at their restaurant. https://www.evolutioncraftbrewing.com/home

I am staying with my cousin in Woodbridge, VA on Friday night and we are driving up Saturday morning. So I have no idea which way i'll be going.

A brewery called Aslin Brewery in Herndon VA is only 30 minute drive north from your cousins place. The beers seem to be pretty solid from what I've read. Also if you can, check out Burley Oak in MD as well as Rubber Soul in MD.

Then you'll be going over the Route 50 bridge at Anapolis. So my suggestion doesn't make as much sense.

16 Mile Brewery in Georgetown, DE is pretty close to DFH. It's about a 14-16 minute drive SE of Dogfish.

Dewey Beer Company and Kitchen is worth the short drive from Rehoboth, and while in Rehoboth, Fins, Henlopen City Oyster House and Pig & Fish are good spots. Stingray if you like sushi.

If you're coming up from the south, a detour to Burley Oak in Berlin, MD is a must.

Mispillion is nearby, I've had their beer but not been to the brewery. I second the idea of hanging at Rehoboth and eating/drinking at the brewpub.

So I went to one of their brew pubs closer to DC, and it was an awful experience. Applebees quality food with dogfish on tap. Is the food better at this one everyone keeps recommending?

Those other ones are a chain that Licenses the DFH part of it. The one everyone is talking about is the original brewery. Cool place with a wood fired grill. I've had good things to eat and average things to eat there, but nothing terrible. It's worth it for the additional beers, and spirits are available there too.

That's interesting to hear. That's actually a separate company that licencees the use of the Dogfish name, but is not part of the brewery/parent company. My understanding is they buy beer from brewery and don't actually brew any themselves. So while they're brewpub-style, they're not actual brew pubs. I've never been but have always been curious about them. Guess I'll skip it.

The Rehoboth Brewpub is the where it all started and is leaps and bounds above Applebees. They have a small (7bbl IIRC) brew system attached that they do lots of experimenting on. You will get access to new tests batches and one-offs. Plus as was earlier mentioned there are usually vintage jems from the stash available to try. I highly recommend the original brewpub!

The brewpub in Rehoboth is awesome, was there Presidents Day weekend and they had 7 brewpub exclusives including their Collab with the Beer Advocate bros. that is a must hit. Henlopen City zoster house is outstanding, great beer program and food. Love going there in the winter.

I'll pile on and say that the brewpub in Rehoboth is 100% worth a visit. There's a mountain of difference between the one in Rehoboth and the other chain brewpubs. One of my favorite beer places I've ever been to, still.

Pickled Pig Pub is a must if you are visiting Dogfish Head.
